Stewart Rhodes – Livestream Video Addresses the Maxine Waters Protest

All, please watch this livestream where I address the Maxine Waters event/non-event from last Thursday.

The text below is from an email exchange I had with a man who took exception to our canceling our protest in front of Maxine Waters’ office.   I think it is a fitting statement to go along with the recording of the livestream video on Facebook I just did.

livestream about Maxine Waters protest/non-protest last Thurs. We didn't protest, but that left her supporters showing their asses to the whole nation. Why that was a win for team freedom: Stewart Rhodes, Founder of Oath Keepers

Posted by Oath Keepers on Monday, July 23, 2018

Here was my response to the man who sent us an angry email:

You are missing the big picture.  Our team leader on the ground is a combat vet who fought against Muslim Extremists in the Philippines, and then was a contractor in Iraq for a year and then Yugoslavia for another year.  He also went up against Antifa in the streets of Berkeley twice as Oath Keepers successfully protected two free speech events.  I was there in person as well, in Berkeley, as were four others in our national leadership.

He is no coward and neither are any of our other men who have been there and done that.

What he is is cool-headed and smart.

On Thursday, we didn’t have enough men on the ground to secure the event on our own once the cops made it clear they would not do their jobs.  If we had gone ahead there is no doubt our guys would have had to use lethal force.

Imagine those optics:

Retired Oath Keepers cop or military veteran shoots young Black Panther idiot with a pipe in his hand.

Which the media would have spun as:

“White right wing extremist cop/veteran shoots peaceful Maxine Waters supporter”.

To be followed by candlelight vigils for the “innocent victim” all over the nation, ala Trevon Martin, with Maxine Waters in attendance, along with Al Sharpton and the other usual suspects.

Imagine that leading up to the midterm elections.

Instead, these were the optics:

Maxine Waters supporters right in front of her office burning the American flag (which they stole from a passing truck – essentially strong armed robbery) while chanting “fuck the government, America was never great” and chanting “black power” and parading around in Revolutionary Communist Party Tee shirts demanding “revolution now”.

Also present was “Refuse Fascism” the communist organization founded by the notorious communist terrorist Bill Ayers, the old leader of the Weather Underground, and the overtly racist New Black Panther Party.

Those are priceless optics that couldn’t have gone better if we had custom ordered them.

That shows that the Democratic Party is now  a communist party that hates this nation.

It was her supporters who were, by their actions:

Violating free speech

Flag burning

All in front of a Democratic Party “leader” Congress-member’s office.

They did all that she tried to say we were, with no optics of our side doing anything that could be twisted by the leftist media.  We gave them nothing to use.

As Sun Szu said the epitome of skill is to be able to win without fighting.

That was a win for our side, going into the midterms.  Use it to show what the Democratic Party has become.

We have faced off and faced down the left in the street on multiple occasions in Berkeley, Portland, Boston, etc.  We know how to go head to head. Been there, done that.

On this one, we won by NOT engaging and not giving Maxine the optics she wanted of our guys using force. Instead, we got optics of her supporters showing their asses as the violent, racist, anti-free speech. anti-American, flag burning communists they are.

Can you see that?

Stewart Rhodes
Army Airborne veteran.

NOTE: All I will add to that is that we went there on Thursday with the intent of starting a small, ongoing protest that we hoped would last for weeks.   We did not have 100 men (or even 25) standing by, ready to deploy.   It wasn’t like in Berkeley, where we took large numbers with us for a one day event that asked for our security and that Antifa had declared they would shut down.

This was going to be a low-key, ongoing protest with people coming and going, doing a protest on the sidewalk.   A different kind of event.  And Johnny made the right call, for all the reasons I laid out above, in the video, and in my email.

  1. No explanation needed for the reasonable minded. It’s easy to call someone a coward from a safe space.

  2. You did the right thing.I too was a bit angry but the optics you got are priceless! Way to go!

  3. Yep, if we had to kill violent protesters in self defense that would surely have been the end of Oathkeepers. The public outcry would have been incredible. The police surely would have come in force then to do their job then.

  4. I was angry that you didn’t CONFRONT these people. I have to say that I also didn’t have all the facts. I apologize. I never called anyone a COWARD nor would I.

  5. Time for the mother of all lawsuits. Slander, Defamation, Libel, etc…. Wikipedia, Google, You tube, Facebook, Southern Poverty Law Center, possibly a plethora of additional entities, etc….
Get em baby, “AND GET EM GOOD, IN THE POCKET BOOK.” !!!
    Settle the Score.
GOD bless American Citizens, and all individuals that support the Constitution, and Peace be to the OATH KEEPERS!!
    Keep up the good work…

  6. I believe the decision to not show up was wise. They showed their true nature, without an Oathkeeper having to spend a cent on gasoline to drive there. And, as stated, if force was justified for self-defense, the media would have had their martyr, and owned the narrative that conservative Christian patriots are the problem. “Know your enemy, and know yourself, and you will never lose a battle.”

  7. Good work Stuart and the Oathkeeper leadership on the ground. You are absolutely correct in your analysis and strategy.

  8. Mr. Rhodes,

Thank you for taking the time to give us your well thought out video and written report on the Maxine Waters protest cancellation. I think that the leaders at Oathkeepers made the best decision.

When local police refuse to protect a legal, peaceful demonstration , it is a recipe to prevent freedom of speech, lawful assembly, and peaceful protests. In a sense, all the antifa, communist, globalist, new world order folks have to do is send a mass of duped people armed with pipes to the area and the demonstration will be cancelled. Law enforcers must uphold the constitutional rights of all, or else the rights listed in the U.S. Constitution will, in practice, be annulled.

I agree with you that being patient and speaking with some on the other side can make a difference, as you said. I am, today, not what I once was, and I am glad people took the time to speak about the Truth with me.

I sincerely support and thank you and others at Oath Keepers for what you did regarding this matter.

  9. I think you guys made the right decision, however at a larger scale, is that where things are heading? That we have to choose between remaining silent, or deadly force. Isn’t the government’s job to protect right to speech? Oathkeepers should not have to do this work.

  10. never knew you existed?thanks ti MYCHALL MASSI for letting us know;will be with you now;going on 73 and have been trying to find a way of beating the commies;will join as soon as we have the money?just went through 2 years of major surgeries and bone cancer?beating it coming back to fight these animals?we know obama is one of the leaders?sad pick for them?
