‘F— the NRA’ a Classless ‘Hail Mary’ Play for Attention by Deservedly Desperate Candidate
“F— the NRA,” New Mexico Democrat congressional candidate Pat Davis declares in a televised political spot. “Their pro-gun policies have resulted in dead children, dead mothers and dead fathers.”
Understand that the condemnation includes all members and all gun owners who agree that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Being an ex-cop and public official, Davis has had numerous occasions to take an oath to the Constitution. That he holds the Second Amendment in contempt and demands, among other citizen disarmament edicts, banning firearms suitable for militia duty and ending private sales, should be a good indicator for how he’ll treat other parts of the founding document he finds inconvenient to his political agenda.
That the ad dropped the “F-bomb” on broadcast television seems a violation of FCC rules, but the Albuquerque’s KRQE had to run it because, per the station manager:
“We received a request for air time from a legitimate federal candidate for office, and according to federal election rules we are required to give him the same access as his opponents. This station, by law, is not permitted to censor or in any way edit this commercial. What we can control however, is the 15 seconds of air time preceding it, which we will use to warn the viewer of a possible offense, explain our own views, and cite the federal laws imposed on candidates and tv stations.”
That’s new to me, and it makes it fair to ask what else a candidate could run in a political ad that would otherwise be a regulatory violation. But in any case, a warning might not be heard and register until it’s too late—the parents could be out of the room and their kids are exposed. The choice of what to allow (as provided via parental advisories at the start of programs) has been taken away, which is what Davis wants to do with other aspects of our lives.
“If a cuss word on TV offends you more than pictures of dead children in Parkland or Newtown, then your priories are all wrong,” Davis replied to Tucker Carlson of Fox News. First, that’s a ridiculous argument that presupposes both aren’t offensive, but more illustrative of his mindset is that he presumes to impose his will over all others – a hallmark of all so-called “progressives.”
What’s also illustrative is the enthusiastic support Davis has received from the gun-grab groups, and as an aside, a tweet from Abrüstung Jugendführer David Hogg, who replied to NRA’s “Stay classy, Pat” response with the accusation that new NRA President Oliver North “sold guns to terrorists.”
It figures someone who raises a fist to demand citizen disarmament and wears armbands would favor ensuring a totalitarian regime maintaining a monopoly of violence:
“Thousands of Nicaraguans who attempted to protect their property — or who simply committed the crime of owning private property — were imprisoned, tortured, or executed by the new despots. Unlike the previous regime of Anastasio Somoza, the Sandinistas did not leave the native populations on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua in peace. In Khmer Rouge style, they inflicted a ruthless, forcible relocation of thousands of Indians from their land. Like Stalin and Mao, the new regime used state-created famine as a weapon against these ‘enemies of the people.’ The Sandinista army committed myriad atrocities against the Indian population, killing and imprisoning approximately 15,000 innocent people. The Sandinista crimes included not only mass murders of innocent natives themselves, but a calculated liquidation of their entire leadership…”
Stay classy, Hogglet.
Back to Davis, he can get away with being a foul-mouthed oath-breaker and a subversive gun-grabber because the district he’s running in is overwhelmingly Democrat. So it’s not like truth and decency are concerns from a constituency that would vote for any of the proto-Marxists in the field. His problem is, other candidates have raised significantly more money than he has, so he has to throw a desperate “Hail Mary” for name recognition and to stand out.
There’s one other area where he does:
“In 2013, while chairman of the Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers, Pat Davis was arrested on an aggravated DWI charge, where he blew a .16, twice the legal limit… Ironically, a few years before his DWI, Davis supported a more aggressive approach to combating drunk driving.”
From the New Mexico Political Journal:
“Irate Reader Responds to Patrick Davis Outrage. Listen to Davis’s DWI Arrest Recording. Whips out “Southern accent” Excuse. Continuing to Run Wild as Taxpayer-Funded City Council Candidate. Local Media Afraid to take him on despite Obvious Conflict of Interest.”
On top of it all, he’s a demonstrable liar:
He seems the last person to be dictating to the rest of us on the safe and responsible use of anything.
Here’s the commercial in question, sanitized for protection:
