Veteran’s Day

Veteran's Day

Today is Veteran’s Day, a day we set aside to thank those who have put their lives on the line, or made the ultimate sacrifice, in the defense of our Republic. Today we say “Thank you for your service.”

It Has Always Been The Soldier

It is the soldier,
not the President who gives us democracy.

It is the soldier,
not the Congress who takes care of us.

It is the soldier,
not the Reporter who has given us Freedom of Press.

It is the soldier,
not the Poet who has given us Freedom of Speech.

It is the soldier,
not the campus [community] Organizer who
has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.

It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag;
who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
that allows the protester to burn the flag.

  1. And it is The Creator who has given us those precious lives that we sacrifice. This precious land to defend, those precious providences and interventions that have allowed us to come this far. The endeavor that is Life Liberty and Happiness under God.

  2. I paid tribute to my father a WWII Navy veteran by calling one of his shipmates whom I just met 3 weeks ago at the Martinsburg VA hospital. He is 93 years old and lives by himself. When I met him it was a pure accident. In the hospital lobby they had a table setup with brochures of information for veterans and he was standing talking to veterans at the table. Being a Vietnam Veteran (Navy) myself I was wearing a Navy hat. Paul ( fathers shipmate) struck up a conversation with me. He made the statement that he was on a Destroyer Escort in the Mediterranean, when I stated that my father was also on a Tin Can in the Med. he stated he was on the Walter S. Brown. Well you could have knocked me down with a feather because that was the same ship my father was on. Needless to say I almost missed my appointment talking to him. I sent a package with pictures, information and some of my family photos. After all these years to find a former shipmate of my father is a billion to one and my next trip up on the 17th I will take more photos and take him out to dinner. Camera will be in hand.
