‘A+’-Rated John Cornyn Continues to Side with Gun-Grabbers

‘A+’-Rated John Cornyn Continues to Side with Gun-Grabbers
Informed American gun owners don’t. And pretending this bill will prevent future acts of evil in order to impose forced infringements is nothing short of fraud.

“Americans want background checks for gun sales,” Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn assured his Twitter followers Friday. He was linking to a San Antonio Express-News editorial board advocacy piece spreading poll summaries showing alternatively that either “95 percent” or “84 percent” of Americans “support universal background checks for gun sales.”

That polls may show that reflects more on the media sound bite “understanding” most being queried have of gun issues in general. When put to the test in the only poll that impacts the real world, Nevada’s Question 1 referendum, the numbers came up different. Despite similar polling and millions of dollars from out-of-state billionaires to fund an Astroturf campaign effort, the measure passed by less than one percent, being rejected in all counties except populous (and Democrat-dominated) Clark County.

The real question here is why is John Cornyn so eager to give the gun-grabbers a victory, teaming with the likes of Chris Murphy and Dianne Feinstein to “Fix NICS”? After all, we’re talking about a politician that the NRA, which gives him an”A+,” says “has always defended our gun rights in Congress!”

And it’s not like there’s any delegated Constitutional authority for the national government to impose prior restraints on firearms transfers in the first place. So why give citizen disarmament leaders something to crow about, especially since no one but a useful idiot believes expanding infringements is aimed at any but the law-abiding?

“John Cornyn knows that the Second Amendment isn’t subject to negotiation, because our right to defend ourselves is the cornerstone of our democracy,” NRA has gushed in the past. “He also knows that the extreme agenda pushed by gun control groups will make us less safe, less free and turn law-abiding gun owners into criminals for simply exercising their rights.”

So why is he helping the anti-gunners in their “baby step” quest to completely end private sales and then move on to the next stop on their “slippery slope”? For that matter, why is NRA supporting giving up any ground to people who want it all, especially since no less a source than the National Institute of Justice has concluded:

“Effectiveness depends on the ability to reduce straw purchasing, requiring gun registration…”

It’s hardly the first time Cornyn — and NRA — have come out in support of citizen disarmament measures. Due process concerns raised in this column have still never been comprehensively addressed about the mental health dragnet they both support, including:

What protections will exist to offset politically-connected anti-gun judges, politically-appointed boards, and “expert” adherents of the American Psychiatric Association’s “Position Statement on Firearm Access, Acts of Violence and the Relationship to Mental Illness and Mental Health Services.” It’s fair to ask, because APA includes in its advocacy platform registration-enabling, background checks, “smart” guns, storage requirements, “gun-free” zones, doctor-patient boundary violations, tax-funded anti-gun “studies,” all outside the scope of the training and credentialing of those making these proposals.

Also of interest – or it should be – how will rights be restored when there is no longer a compelling mental health reason to deny them? What universal appeal mechanism – affordable to all, not just to elites for whom money is no object – will exist to declare a person is once more “eligible” to keep and bear arms? What guarantees are there that the same biases that colored the disability ruling in the first place won’t reassert themselves in the “parole” process? And have we identified psychiatric evaluators, risk management administrators and insurers who will be willing to subject themselves to malpractice liabilities should a person deemed “fit” be misdiagnosed? Or will the pressure be to “err on the side of caution”?

Lest we forget, Cornyn and other “top Congressional Republicans” have also “signaled” to the media they “would be open to banning the firearm accessory that the Las Vegas gunman used to transform his rifles to mimic automatic weapon fire.”

Add to that Cornyn’s abysmal grades on immigration issues from Numbers USA. That’s directly relevant to the right to keep and bear arms – despite NRA’s deliberate indifference to the issue. That’s because all credible polls – plus real world experience in places like California – demonstrate such populations overwhelmingly support “gun control.” Open a “pathway to citizenship” and overwhelmingly anti-gun legislatures will be empowered to pass whatever infringements they want, plus ensure federal judges confirmed by the majority will uphold them.

What will A-rated Republican politicians and the “gun rights” organization that gives the green light to their defections tell us we need to give up then? And what will constituents and members who feel betrayed tell them in return?

    1. The only results to a law like this will effect the legal gun owner and he/she is the person who does NOT do the shooting or the crime.

      1. The part where it says “People,” and “Shall not be Infringed.” In other words, any person in this country that’s not currently incarcerated, is in fact a “Legal Gun Owner.” Therefore “Background Checks” on their face are Unconstitutional.

Because we have allowed the govt. to define and constantly redefine “Legal Gun Owner” and even worse “Legal Purpose for Gun Ownership” as it is outlined in the GCA of 1968, we have set up the vehicle of “Incrementalism,” allowing for the govt. to eventually take everyone’s rights away. The GCA of 1968 has Ex Post Facto, Bill of Attainder, and Titles of Nobility sewn right in the fabric, yet we sit back and allow it for our “Safety.” So again Rev, define “Legal Gun Owner” and please keep in mind that in 1789 there were; “Crazy felonious, violent, drug pushers” all over the place. In fact, they established this country.

  1. All this “theater” about ” “signaled” to the media they “would be open to banning the firearm accessory that the Las Vegas gunman used to transform his rifles to mimic automatic weapon fire.”” and no has proven yet (to my knowledge) that Stephen Paddock was the lone shooter! Multiple reports (no pun intended) of multiple shooters and no one raises an eyebrow!

    1. Maybe no eyebrows go up because it’s always squelched quickly – somehow. Sandy Hook, Aurora cinema shoot-up, and a few others the names of which I’ve forgotten. People who were there say there were multiple shooters, then somehow just sort of disappear and the interview videos where they make those statements on film also just disappear. Weird, huh?

  2. David Codrea;

I am an NRA life member and TSRA life member….
I have written the NRA and told them more than once that mr cornyn is NOT on our side and has been LYING about his support for the 2nd Amendment…. they blew me off…
It should be noted this NRA rating is achieved 100% on his written responses to a questionnaire form (allegedly also on his voting – but I ask, how can that be? Empirical Evidence says NO) and not the actual truth….

The NRA is responsible for allowing his “rating” to continue – and frankly they need to be called out on it by someone with traction – like an author from Oathkeepers…. Officially, on letterhead and cosigned by the President of the organization.
Even better would be a call for Texas members to sign…..

    Jus Sayin………….

    1. I call them out by not giving them money. Cancel your life membership, otherwise you are no better. Fences are not allowed.

      1. NEVER buy a “LIFE” membership! Buy 1 year at a time which allows you to vote with your wallet and let your voice be heard. Lifetime means they got your money and thats it.

  3. “That polls may show that reflects more on the media sound bite “understanding” most being queried have of gun issues in general.”

And that one sentence explains it all.

  4. Mr Cornyn is no friend of Texas or the US. He has backed most globalist policies including the North Amercan Union, NAFTA CAFTA etc. I am not surprised.

  5. John Cornyn is “my” Senator. I voted against him the last time he ran. I will never vote for him again. He is the problem, he needs to be gone along with the rest of the RINOs.

    1. We have to wait until 2020 to vote him out. Wish the 17th Amendment which supersedes Article I, §3, Clauses 1 and 2 of the Constitution, under which senators were elected by state legislatures.

  6. Dear Senator John Cornyn
Senator John Cornyn you teaming up with California gun grabber Diane Feinstein, introducing gun control legislation in the U.S. Senate! Initial reports say that the Feinstein-Cornyn bill will expand the Brady-NICS gun owner registry to become a Super Database –stripping even more Texans of their Second Amendments rights without due process.

And as the second-highest ranking Senate Republican, You , Senator Cornyn you are busy whipping up other weak-kneed Republicans to join in on Feinstein`s scheme.

And YOU are hoping that you can quietly usher this bill along the process while we move deeper into the holiday season.

Senator Cornyn I ask you to abandon all efforts to push gun control! WE THE PEOPLE do not agree on what you are doing to ALL of US .
    Thank you Sir

  7. Cornyn the ” CRONYN “” ; double tongued viper ; not to be trusted . Republican Senator John Cornyn is teaming up with California gun grabber Diane Feinstein, introducing gun control legislation in the U.S. Senate! Senator Cornyn is blatantly ignoring your calls to abandon his push for gun control and is actively working with known Second Amendment enemies.

Initial reports say that the bill will expand the Brady-NICS gun owner registry to become a Super Database stripping even more Texans of their Second Amendments rights without due process.

That `s why Senator Cornyn needs to hear from you,

Please call Cornyn and insist that he reverse course at once. Thanks.

  8. Murder is already illegal. Shooting someone is already illegal. Terrorizing someone with a weapon is already illegal. Brandishing is already illegal. Assault, in various forms, is already illegal. Disorderly conduct is already illegal. Violating the constitution is already illegal. All of these laws are broken routinely, and adding a law to make private gun sells illegal is not going to change that. What pisses me off most, is the violators of the constitution. They go virtually unchecked and unpunished. Let’s make it a requirement to pass a mental health exam to hold any public office. If implemented immediately and applied to all current public servants, we would have a lot of vacancies to fill. The crazies are running the asylum.
