The lies we were told about who would silence free speech

John KassApril 28, 2017

The lie we were told as kids was this: The end of American liberty would come at the hands of the political right.

Conservatives would take away our right to speak our minds, and use the power of government to silence dissent. The right would intimidate our teachers and professors, and coerce the young.

And then, with the universities in thrall, with control of the apparatus of the state (and the education bureaucracy), the right would have dominion over a once-free people.

Some of us were taught this in school. Others, who couldn’t be bothered to read books, were fed a cartoon version of the diabolical conservative in endless movies and TV shows. The most entertaining of these were science fiction, sometimes with vague references to men in brown shirts and black boots goose-stepping in some future time.

Women would become handmaids, subjugated and turned into breeders. And men would be broken as well. The more lurid fantasies offered armies of Luddites in hooded robes, hunting down subversives for the greater good.

But the lie is obvious now, isn’t it?

Because it is not conservatives who coerced today’s young people or made them afraid of ideas that challenge them. Conservatives did not shame people into silence, or send thugs out on college campuses to beat down those who wanted to speak.

The left did all that.

It’s there in front of you, the thuggish mobs of the left killing free speech at American universities. The thugs call themselves antifas, for anti-fascists.

They beat people up and break things and set fires and intimidate. These are not anti-fascists. These are fascists. This is what fascists do.

Some wear masks to cover their faces, or hide bike locks in scarves and swing them at the heads of any who disagree. They’re all about intimidation. And intimidation on a national scale, so angry and violent, is a fascist thing of the left.

Many liberals — journalists, senators, television comedians and others — are properly appalled at what their political children, born of the hard left, have done. Many liberals have warned about this, and so many must wince as the fruits of their labor turn bitter in their mouths.

But they are also complicit, because they’ve taken advantage of the anger and energy of this hard left fascism to leverage their own politics. And Democratic operatives still hope to use this emotional frenzy and muscle for political gain in the next elections.

What is the cost for all this?

Free speech, without which there is no republic.

American universities were once thought to be the last great refuge of ideas, where ideas could flourish and be challenged and debated. But today, the university is the place where liberty and ideas go to die.

The American university is where intellectuals with dissenting views are silenced — even physically assaulted — by mobs. And administrators sit by and watch, afraid to anger those mobs.

What has been the general liberal response to Americans who insist on speaking after being threatened?

Annoyance. The response sounds like this: Hush. Go away. Come back later when it’s quiet. Why cause trouble? Shhh.

Right-wing provocateur Ann Coulter has been silenced at Berkeley, where the free speech movement was born. And other intellectuals, including Charles Murray and Heather Mac Donald, have been silenced at other colleges, attacked by mobs.

If the left agrees with your views, you may speak. If the left doesn’t agree, they will shut you down. This is America now.

[snip]

All speech challenging the status quo is offensive — to the establishment. And free speech is what American liberty is about.

Unless, of course, you’re of the hard left, and can hunt free speech at American universities and crush it.

That’s not fiction. That’s not fantasy. And it is not a lie. It’s happening now, in the United States.

  1. I wasn’t told that conservatives or liberals would take away our rights. No one should believe that because it is NOT “conservatives” or “liberals” or any other label they want to call themselves in order to FURTHER divide us.

BTW, neither should we do so. Here is why. They are UNCONSTITUTIONAL in action and beliefs, and it matters not if conservative or liberal.

When there is a candidate, we must ask if they are CONSTITUTIONAL, not liberal or conservative on any and every matter. If they are not constitutional, we must say so and push to not elect them, to remove them if already elected, etc. These are Constitutional issues, no sides to it besides unconstitutional or constitutional.

These people who pretend they are protestors are not; they are mostly hired thugs, or kids brainwashed, paid and used to further divide our nation, to assist in the division, to bring harm PRETENDING it is “peaceful protest” or done in the name of “saving our nation from whatever. It is not. It is to cause further division. What they do with those actions are to BREAK OUR LAWS. When they attack someone it is a CRIME, not a political gesture. That matters not if they are thugs, kids, or cops – state or federal, all are to follow and keep our CONSTITUTIONAL Laws, all that is in Pursuance thereof it, Oath takers most of all.

Do not let them tell you how to label in ways that further divide us, instead say that they are “unconstitutional”, because we care not what party they are in, we care if they are going to stand for our LEGITIMATE government. WE must say that this person committed assault and battery, murder, whatever. Drop the political divisions and go after the ACTIONS taken.

JFK, Yale University speech, June 11, 1962: “For the greatest enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth – persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.”

Universities is paid for with our tax dollars. Though it has been hidden and covered up by those who serve, and probably color of law to stop it, we are not to be compelled to furnish our money for things we do not support or believe in.

Thomas Jefferson: “To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical.”

James Madison, Fed #58, reminded the Constitutional delegates in 1788, the power of the purse is historically the “most effectual” and complete power of the people to control government. Therefore, keeping that essential power at the State level gave the people greater control to prevent misappropriation of funds on the federal level: “This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure… finally reducing, as far as it seems to have wished, all the overgrown prerogatives of the other branches of the government.”

Samuel Adams, using sarcasm to make a point on May 15, 1764 (Understand that all that he lists is PROTECTED from those who serve within our governments – state and federal – by the US Constitution): “But if our Trade may be taxed why not our Lands? Why not the Produce of our Lands and every thing we possess or make use of? This we apprehend annihilates our Charter Right to govern and tax ourselves… are we not reduced from the Character of free Subjects to the miserable State of tributary slaves?”

George Washington: ““I think the Parliament of Great Britain hath no more Right to put their hands into my Pocket, without my consent, than I have to put my hands into your’s, for money…”

Thomas Jefferson to Lord North 1775: “That this privilege of giving or of withholding our monies, is an important barrier against the undue exertion of prerogative, which if left altogether without control, may be exercised to our great oppression; and all history shews how efficacious is its intercession from redress of grievances, and re-establishment of rights, and how improvident it would be to part with so powerful a mediator.”

Military, LE’s, First Responders, it is critical for your nation that you do your job constitutionally. Critical that you keep your Oath to support and defend the US Constitution before the orders of superiors, before the duties of the position you occupy. If you do so, America will not fall, because it cannot go there at this time without your willing assistance to break your Oath and supreme contract.

What do I mean? If called to war in a foreign nation, did those who serve within our Congress and are the ONLY Ones who have the authority to call forth our military declare war? If not, and it matters not if it was the US President or anyone else, you MUST refuse that unLawful order or you assist the destruction of your legitimate government and your country.

If called to break and enter into a persons home, is there a LAWFUL warrant – is there ” probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized”? if not, then it is NOT Lawful, and it matters not who gave that order, the order giver committed a felony and the crime of Perjury at the very LEAST.

Our Fourth Amendment enforces the concept that IS in writing that “each man’s home is his castle”, SECURE from unreasonable searches and seizures of property by the government. It protects the people, and yourselves, against arbitrary arrests. If is the base and foundation of our Law regarding search warrants, stop-and-frisk, safety inspections, wiretaps, and other forms of surveillance, as well as being central to many other criminal law topics and to privacy law. At this time we have many “color of law” being enforced which weakens and destroys our nation from within.

If you work for the county, city, state, is what you are being required to do constitutional? Etc.

What happens in our nation and to our country is up to us, all of us. Those that serve, served, and will serve. If we lose our nation none of us will be “allowed” to own anything, food, clothing, water, etc, will all be issued to us. Some will be ALLOWED to breed, others will not. Total control is the end result of losing the USA and the American people. Is that what YOU want?

When a crime is committed, do not call it a “political” problem, call it a criminal problem because THAT is what that action is here.
