Fresno State Would Not Hesitate to Dismiss ‘Hate Professor’ were He Conservative
“To save American democracy, Trump must hang,” Fresno State University Professor Lars Maischak wrote on his Twitter account, Fox News and others report. “The sooner and the higher, the better.”
I’d originally planned on linking directly to that account, but for reasons that appear to include trying to avoid repercussions, the account has been deactivated. Fortunately, others on Twitter learning of the guy’s apparent inability to act like a sane person on social media were quick to document his lunatic outburst with screenshots to prove he’d made them. They included such predictable gems as:
“What ELSE – beyond Ghoulsuch – will it take for #Liberals to realize the #Constitution is rotten & does not merit their slavish affection?”
“Don’t tell me to ‘obey the Law.’ ‘The Law’ in this country is one part Racism, one part Class Oppression, all Capitalism. #TheResistance”
Having dispensed with the Constitution and with private property, Maischak showed his end game for patriotic Americans who believe in national sovereignty:
So he also intends to ban and execute political opponents. That presupposes there will be plenty of non-Oath Keepers willing to arrest and try and execute these Republicans, and that they’ll be able to get away with it. In other words, he is advocating for totalitarianism and genocide, and by default the “monopoly of violence” needed to carry out such evil.
What is it about commies that they always seem to end up there?
Good thing some of us understand the right to keep and bear arms and the Second Amendment make such plans problematic for would-be Robespierres and Pol Pots. but it does make it fair to wonder how much range time Maischak gets in…
Oh, but he didn’t mean it he says, now that people are demanding a taxpayer-funded university divest itself of his “services.” His words have been taken out of context. Anyone thinking otherwise is being manipulated by mean old right wingers.
For its part, the Fresno State initially distanced itself, with University President Joseph I. Castro trying to duck the controversy by claiming:
“He is a lecturer at Fresno State. Statements on his social media accounts are his alone and do not reflect the position of the University.”
When he saw that wasn’t working, he issued a more detailed CYA attempt at distancing himself, with an April 12 update revealing Maischak has apologized and is “willing… to take accountability for the statements made on his Twitter account.”
In other words, it’s finally dawned on the guy that he has no useful skills for feeding himself outside of his safe space and has created a situation where his presence endangers the other trough-feeders. Mindful of his preferred place at the head of the chow line, Castro says the university will “continue a review of the situation,” albeit he’s leaving himself an “out” by saying it will be handled “in accordance with applicable law, policy and the requirements of the faculty collective bargaining unit agreement.”
Let’s look at some of those policies, notably:
Fresno State will not tolerate any incidents involving the degradation of any real or perceived race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. All reported hate incidents of a criminal nature will be investigated and submitted to the Fresno County District Attorney for prosecution.
Workplace Violence Policy
Fresno State is concerned about the personal safety and security of its students, employees and guests. University policy does not tolerate violence, threats of violence or acts of aggression against members of the University community or visitors. It is the responsibility of our faculty, staff and students to report acts or threats of violence to the Fresno State Police Department and/or to appropriate supervisory personnel. Any student, faculty or staff who engages in behavior which violates this policy will be subject to appropriate university disciplinary actions, and may be subject to applicable civil or criminal legal action as well.
So Maischack’s public rants like “If only Mary had had an abortion! We would have been spared this Clerical-Fascist crap. #His Glory my ass!” and “You Fascist Trump-voting white trash scum can wallow in your filthy hell-holes of flyover states. Enjoy,” don’t “involv[e] the degradation of any real or perceived race [and] religion”? If they do, have they been “submitted to the Fresno County District Attorney for prosecution”?
And calling for the hanging of the President and the execution of Republicans, even if it turns out not to be an actionable “threat,” is not an “act… of aggression against members of the University community or visitors”?
Hey, it’s their policy. What they are required to do is apply it evenly across the board.
Does anyone think for a moment Castro would be putting himself through such contortions were Maischak a Trump-supporting Republican calling for Hillary to be hanged if she had won and for amnesty-supporting Democrats to be executed? How about if he had gone on public rants against black “trash scum,” and had proclaimed “If only Aminah had had an abortion”?
Who thinks Castro’s failure to act decisively in such circumstances would not result in his school being burned to the ground?
