New U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley ‘Hits the Ground Running’
By Mike Miller
Less than 48 hours after being sworn in as the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley “hit the ground running,” as she arrived to present her credentials to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
In what was tantamount to a “there’s a new sheriff in town” declaration, Haley made it clear that the “business as usual” of the last eight years is over.
“It’s a thrill to be here at the U.N. I will tell you that we have hit the ground running. There is a new U.S. U.N. You are going to see a change in the way we do business. It’s no longer about working harder, it’s about working smarter.”
In a not-so-thinly-veiled threat, Haley also made it clear exactly what the Trump administration expects from U.S. allies in the world body.
“Our goal is to show value at the U.N. The way we’ll show value is to show our strength […] have the backs of our allies, and make sure that our allies have our backs, as well. For those that don’t have our back, we’re taking names.”
