If you are like me you are always on the look out for new and unique prepper / survival tips. Here is one I found particularly interesting. Usually one does not relate fire starting with lemons. However in the following video you will find that you can actually start a survival fire using just that a lemon!

  1. Yes, because everyone has a lemon and spare screws in their bugout bag. Isn’t citrus part of everyone’s SHTF Gear?

Let me save a few lives with a better idea. Buy a:

    9v battery
    Some steel wool

Keep separate till needed. the battery should last about 5 years and the steel wool will last forever.

Place both in separate ziplock freezer bags.

When you need a fire fast:

1 – remove both from bags
2 – place steelwool inside of kindling etc
3 – touch 9v battery terminals to steelwool

Tada…geez…you guys make me look good. Keep it up.

  2. Seems like an awful lot of trouble. Who carries around lemons, paper fasteners, nails, and copper wire? Better to just make sure one has plenty of matches in a water tight container before one starts out.

  3. Good God Elias! The interns must have run amuck while you were sleeping! I can only infer that this inane article was put up to “draw fire” from the one above it.

Were we to experience a SHTF situation, a lemon would be more valuable than gold. Certainly fire will be available in many other ways; A lighter, emblazoned with ” Death from Above” whose owner no longer has any use for it, matches from a ration pack, or even your house, lit up by a drone or “Apache”, whose operator is clearing the racks on the flight home.

When one has nothing to say, silence is indeed Golden.

  4. You do realize that now that the federal thugs will require a background check, mental check, a huge lemon tax, open carry permit for lemons and surveillance of anyone suspected of tying to survive while carrying a lemon.

Next they will outlaw sheep for producing steel wool. Bahhh
