Government Agencies Are Stockpiling Body Armor, Tactical Gear, Ammo

In recent years under President Obama, federal agencies have been stockpiling alarmingly huge amounts of military hardware, body armor, and riot gear. As concerns continue to mount over an increasingly bloated and powerful federal government, agencies whose primary function is administrative — such as the EPA, FDA, and IRS — have been progressively militarized. Since 2006, 44 federal agencies have spent an astounding $71 million on items such as guns, ammunition, body armor, and riot and tactical gear.

And citizens as well as watchdog agencies are taking due note of these alarming developments.

In a recent audit of the federal government by the nonprofit organization Open the Books, government waste and bloat takes a backseat to the issue of increasingly armed government agencies. Since 2006, nearly $330 million was spent on the same type of equipment by traditional law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, DEA, and Secret Service.

The massive expenditures by agencies which are supposed to be administrative by nature have many people asking why, for instance, the Department of Veterans Affairs would need riot helmets, body armor, Kevlar blankets, and tactical gear. Or why the FDA needs ballistic vests.

As concerned Americans study the numbers in the watchdog audit, many are asking why the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) spent $200,000 on body armor during the Obama administration, or for what reason the Zoo Police at the Smithsonian Institution spent $28,000 for body armor during the fiscal year 2012.

Children and adults alike are taught to view police as the “good guys.” However, America’s local police force is increasingly being militarized. Simultaneously media outlets, congressmen, and President Obama are pressing the call for American citizens to be further disarmed and weakened through the systematic dismantling of the Second Amendment.

A 2015 Gallup poll showed that more and more Americans are viewing the increasing power of the federal government as a significant problem, beating out such issues as the economy, unemployment, ISIS, and immigration. As citizens are increasingly disarmed and government agencies grow ever more militarized, the poll results should come as no surprise.

And, as federal agencies are being armed more than ever before, President Obama has simultaneously been attempting to nationalize local police forces. In March 2015, a report by The President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing came under scrutiny for the same reasons. Labelled by many as “Common Core” for police, the plan would enforce national policing standards across the nation in the same manner national education standards have been enforced through Common Core math.

President Obama has at times been a vocal opponent of heavily militarized police action. However as stated by Alex Newman in The New American:

It was the Obama administration, of course, that has done more to militarize local law enforcement than perhaps any other president in U.S. history. Among other troubling schemes that have accelerated under the current occupant of the White House: providing even more “surplus” military weapons from the Defense Department, and massive unconstitutional bribes from the Department of Homeland Security. Both schemes are aimed at federalizing and militarizing state and local police. The U.S. Constitution, of course, does not authorize any such programs.

Law enforcement officials must be directly subject to the citizens they will be policing. In the same respect, heavily armed officials in a myriad of non-law-enforcement-oriented federal agencies — officials with nearly no obligation to answer to the people — must be viewed with a wary eye as they continue to stockpile military-grade gear and weapons.

Many administrative federal agencies are required by Congress to employ their own law enforcement officers. According to a 2012 Bureau of Justice Statistics report, federal agencies employ about 120,000 full-time officers who are authorized to carry firearms and make arrests. The argument by agencies such as the IRS and EPA is that those agents must be fully armed and ready for any confrontation. However, as previously stated, it is the extent to which those agencies are being armed that has drawn the concern of many.

Among government agencies which carry out law enforcement actions are the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Education, the Bureau of Land Management, the Postal Inspection Service, Fish and Wildlife, the Department of the Interior, and the National Park Service.

As the federal government’s waistline grows and law enforcement personnel within those agencies are armed at an unprecedented level, one has to ask, “To what end?” The U.S. Constitution was written in such a manner as to give maximum rights and liberty to the citizens. The First and Second Amendments to the Constitution read:

Amendment 1. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment 2. A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

The Declaration of Independence specifically mentions the unalienable rights of “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Part of the system the Founders established to protect those God-given rights of the citizenry was to secure freedom to practice one’s religion, freedom of speech, freedom to freely assemble, freedom to petition the government, and (contrary to the message constantly being sent forth from the president’s “bully pulpit”) the right to keep and bear arms.

The Founding Fathers intended citizens’ rights to begin with the people themselves — for them to be secured at home first; secured at the federal level last. With increasingly armed government agencies which have no business owning riot gear, people must speak out against what is not only government waste, but blatant attempts to subvert states’ rights — that not only will further empower a bloated government, but will nationalize police forces across the country.

  1. Hey Mr Alias….I suspect that if those goons in the picture were pointing their weapons at opey or black, It would not go well for them. Even our kitties are not safe. That’s the last straw right there.

All kidding aside….That picture says it all about the powers that be. Sickening to say the least.

  2. I remember a speech he gave saying “we” need a civilian police force just as strong and as well equiped as our military. I have been watching my 6 ever since. He told us he was going to do it and still today people are walking around in a daze going wtf. The time to shut that down has long passed now that DHS has enough hollow point 5.56 ammo to shoot every man, woman and child 9 times. And yet still they buy more. Just who is stupid enough to really belive that it is all for training?

  3. In any (conceivable) event, (to include every last LEO “getting in on it”), even 100% of the LEOs would be vastly outnumbered (by veterans alone). Add to that the KNOWN number of folks who carry concealed (or open in Tx), all the member of the NRA, every member of all insurances who do nothing but insure folks who “carry” (up to $1.1 million per event) …so there is money to be made without a doubt, and someone is making it big time ever since Obama was ‘seated’.
This has all the earmarks that ‘the hidden army’ (when ppl ask, “Who then is going to be attacking us?”) is in reality all around us, in plain sight …to include the postman who may (in some areas today) still comes right up to your house and drops ANYTHING into your door’s “mail-slot” (or mail-door in some areas).
My 2 cents is that there has been an OFFICIAL CALL TO ARMS made by a great number of Sheriffs ….and the list of organizations (that are under the Sheriffs and such), are pushing the same “idea” as hard as they can afford to. WE NEED TO ARM OUR ASSES “AS SOON AS POSSIBLE” (though I doubt a soul here has not done so to the best degree they have been able to). Should “everything” (or even a portion) of HALF of the “things” you are hearing about are true, then it is already “a given” that without a weapon you and your loved ones are in the percentile that will die when you are viciously accosted with no protection. Few there are that will be roaming around seeking out targets that will leave you with your life intact …”all infidels must die” remember? Looks to me that our deadliest enemy has become The US Government (and apparently the greatest majority of federal offices). We have a Constitution that tells us precisely what to do should we find ourselves with such a problem. Due to Burns, OR …we now know we have a “most” functional Militia (organized) across the lower 48 (excepting a few ‘anal’ areas, such as inside the entire beltway in DC).
Now, the question stands being: What will cause We The People to rise up and when? (Actually, something already has …and these very things that are NOT being covered in any major media may well lead to Civil War #2 = = or, if “they” have any sense left, they’ll be convinced to leave office or die and then the rebuilding of everything would have to be tackled and rebuilt Constitutionally. By people. No lawyers/loudmouths/know-it-alls/etc….
One Republic! (Was democracy ever any part of this nation at the onset)? Seems the democratic ways are MOST devastating to this nation …without exception.
Nice dream eh? …yeah. ….back to annealing my 7.62x51mm’s. Oh, has anyone else noticed that Hillary is talking about having Obama do a THIRD TERM in Office? (I assume she’d then become Vice Prez …or become some sort of bizarre Czar of Weapon Owners Annihilation Agency (CWOAA)?

  4. Whatever could be a truly logical reason for having a police force equally as powerful as our military? And whatever happened to THEM ensuring that the organized militia, and not THEM, are given the very latest and greatest that is being used by “American Forces”? Remington and Winchester might be great stocks to buy into considering what may well be on the horizon if not unfolding as I type?

  5. It’s amazing how far people will go to not pay attention to what’s going on here in the US OF A!. Our Constitution gives us the right to bear arms to protect our selves from our government. Look around. The trains with shackles are real folks. So are the guillotines and the laws that were signed while most of Congress was not there. If you think Obama is not going to declare martial law soon, you are crazy. He’s set up a system where he can keep power and come after Americans. His laws were set so ISIS has an easy way in. The government even set up a ways to collect, incarcerate and murder Americans. If you don’t believe me, Google it. Fema camps in almost every state. Some to hold 500000 or more people. It’s like setting America up for a new holocaust. The camps even have buildings for inmates to work. Again. Look them up. There are too many just for refugees. Why do we need a fema camp in Alaska? Wake up people! Bad thing are coming. PRAY, Be Aware, Alert, and Prepare yourself and your family!

  6. History repeats itself…

Among the complaints made against the King in the Declaration of Independence — the rationale for forming our nation — were these:

“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

  7. Elias, have folks already forgotten the armed black panthers at the voting place. That were, pardoned and praised, by AG Holder. My, my. What selective memory and justice our PTB have.

  8. I wish the article had contained links to independent verification of the assertions it makes. Absent these, it as ineffective in convincing a neighbor who wants facts, not claims, in order to be convinced.

    1. If you are going to stockpile alot of something, it better be well-hidden and guarded. In a revolution I see alot of that gear being used to our benefit. For example, in the book Shots Fired in Anger, the author points out that our boys would take some of the superior gear off of the captured and dead Japanese.

  9. Well, I would say that much of that military hardware and equipment will be taken with the honorable ones that come over to the side of liberty just like much of the equipment and munitions that the military has will be changing hands with the Oath Keeping military that fall in on the side of liberty. The rest of the ammunition, weapons and equipment will be kept safe and sound for later drawing as the need and opportunity arises. Then again most of the bullies and scoundrels that will stay with the usurpers will provide much of their kits and weapons when they either drop it to run or it is found on their stinking caucuses. These enemies within are sorely underestimating their oppositions will, training, experience and determination, don’t you think.

  10. Later this year SEALs will be conducting “realistic military training” in or near urban areas in western Washington. This was revealed via leaked Navy documents provided to Truthout as detailed in “EXCLUSIVE: Navy Uses US Citizens as Pawns in Domestic War Games” by Dahr Jamail. You don’t have to like or agree with the politics of the folks at Truthout to be concerned with such exercises.

    1. Thank you for posting. Here is the link to the article at Truthout:

Regarding the fact that Truthout is a “Left Gate Keeper” or sorts, or is seen to be by some readers, I have seen other good articles there in past years. Oath Keepers is neither “Left” nor “Right”. The truth does out, and no one has a monopoly on truth.

  11. The photo of the two officers pointing weapons at the cat, was I am sure in fun. If you look at the vehicles in the back ground, they are parked most likely at a training site. As a retired detective I can tell you that humor is a necessary stress reliever. As a cop for 30 years, I can tell you that most line level officers are very mindful of and dedicated to the constitution. Administrators on the other hand are beholden to local politicians. Dislike, distrust and ridicule of law enforcement generally comes from law breakers, not honest citizens. Who do think is going come when you call 911 in an emergency?
