Lockdown Highlights Shameful Mandated Vulnerability of ‘Gun-Free’ Zones
The University of Chicago went on lockdown Monday. First reports gave no reason other than a nebulous online threat of “gun violence” from an unnamed individual that was being investigated by the FBI.
Subsequently, CNN added the suspect’s name and motive:
Jabari Dean, 21, was arrested Monday, accused of threatening to kill students and staff at the University of Chicago, authorities said. Citing court documents, they said that he had stated in a post on social media that he planned to execute approximately 16 students or staff, as well as “any number of white policemen.”
The message in total read:
This is my only warning. At 10AM Monday morning, I’m going to the campus quad of the University of Chicago. I will be armed with an M-4 carbine and two desert eagles, all fully loaded. I will execute approximately 16 white male students and or staff, which is the same number of time [Lacquan] McDonald was killed [shot]. I will then die killing any number of white policeman in the process. This is not a joke. I am to do my part and rid the world of white devils. I expect you do the same.
So much for the “progressive” stereotype about who the racists are.
If Dean had actually been capable and not alerted everyone, he’d have had a good chance. Because, unsurprisingly, UoC is a “gun free” campus, meaning all first responders would be able to do is hide, flee or bleed out until armed second responders assumed control.
Predictably, the school’s president shared nothing about the true nature of the threat in his “all clear” announcement. His interests are in perpetuating “progressive” policies, not in helping to mold students into informed adults, prepared for the responsibilities of citizenship:
The University of Chicago is committed to providing a safe and secure learning, working and living environment. Subject to the exceptions in Section III, the University prohibits the possession, use or storage of firearms, other lethal weapons, fireworks, and other dangerous objects or materials by anyone: (i) on any property owned, leased or controlled by the University, including but not limited to all buildings, land, parking areas, sidewalks and common areas; (ii) in any vehicle, owned, leased or controlled by the University regardless of location; (iii) at any external, University-sponsored activities or events; and (iv) employed by the University when conducting University business anywhere.
When, not if, a rabid wolf shows up among the sheep, the results will be predictable, as will the insistence of opportunists in government, the totalitarian lobby and the media that what we really need are more sheep. Meanwhile such islands of insane defenselessness will remain vulnerable to being shut down over internet posts, creating even more pressure for government to take away even more freedom under the fraudulent illusion that they are providing more security.
