Oath Keepers did NOT organize the Global Rally for Humanity

Tin Broken Telephones

There has been a lot of confusion about Oath Keepers and this last week’s Global Rally for Humanity .

For the record, the Oath Keepers had nothing to do with this rally what so ever.

It has been mis-represented by many major news outlets that this is an event that was organized by us and that simply is not the case. We have sent out letters and communicated directly with some of these writers in order to get this information corrected.

We find it very disheartening that someone who is writing for the mainstream media would not take the time to contact our organization directly and confirm what is, up to that point, hearsay. A basic tenet of journalism is to check your facts. This does not seem to be done by these so called “journalists.” It seems they are more interested in demonizing us than reporting on truth.

A good rule of thumb when concerning Oath Keepers National and what we are, or are not planning and/or organizing, is to check our website or email newsletter. It is through these avenues that will make announcements concerning our upcoming projects and operations.

Stewart Rhodes

Stewart is the founder and National President of Oath Keepers. He served as a U.S. Army paratrooper until disabled in a rough terrain parachuting accident during a night jump. He is a former firearms instructor, former member of Rep. Ron Paul’s DC staff, and served as a volunteer firefighter in Montana. Stewart previously wrote the monthly Enemy at the Gates column for S.W.A.T. Magazine. Stewart graduated from Yale Law School in 2004, where his paper “Solving the Puzzle of Enemy Combatant Status” won Yale’s Miller prize for best paper on the Bill of Rights. He assisted teaching U.S. military history at Yale, was a Yale Research Scholar, and is writing a book on the dangers of applying the laws of war to the American people.

  1. Well you have Blaine Cooper all over Facebook wearing Oath Keeper shirt he looked like the new poster boy for Oath Keepers promoting this event.

    1. Oath Keepers didn’t dress Blaine Cooper. Blaine is a big boy, im sure he can dress himself any way he wants. This is still America isn’t it?

      1. It’s America, alright. Yes indeed. And Oath Keepers is headquartered in America. Oath Keepers is a listed and incorporated organization. As such, Oath Keepers has a set of bylaws which you’ll find on the front page of this website. Exemplary deportment of and by our members is required. Misrepresenting Oath Keepers is not acceptable. Oath Keepers has every right to protect its public brand.

  2. The Media was willfully and purposefully negligent. Period.

It was so transparent it didn’t surprise me or bother me much. It certainly didn’t upset me.

The silver lining is people are catching on. As people, including Liberals, instinctively seek the truth elsewhere, the Media desperately presses our fear button harder, faster and more often with ever diminishing effect.

Frankly, I wouldn’t have bothered sending out letters. It’s somewhat like responding to a stalker or some other madman: it validates their self-importance and encourages them to repeat. The Media nows how to research; they know where the Oathkeepers website is and that it is just a mouse click away.

Look at it this way: the Media is taking more note of Oathkeepers growth. Oathkeepers is on solid ground so it is fair to say Bad News is Good News. Every time they print ‘Oathkeepers’ it encourages more people to investigate and discover the truth.

    1. What you have said is very true. But — it is also essential that note must be made that any fire that is set will do what it was intended to do if it is not put out immediately. I am a firm believer that sometimes one must fight fire with fire. It is obvious that Oath Keepers is having an impact…as it must. Why else was such a False Story published ? It is Essential that a disclaimer be made, even though it is as you said, ” Every time they print ‘Oath keepers’ it encourages more people to investigate and discover the truth.’

  3. Is their use of the Oath Keepers name on their banners and advertising a legal issue? I believe they used the OK name for impact, not to smear us. Was an OK member involved?
While the pictures were pretty innocuous, they still misrepresented who was supporting the event. The media didn’t invent that.
While they would have been served well to check with OK, I’d say it was convenient laziness, rather than their invention.
We need to do all we can to educate the media. We may never convince the far left, but those right of center will lean our way, once they understand we are the good guys.

  4. I suppose this being the first I’ve read of a ‘Global Rally for Humanity’ event, it didn’t get much coverage. And really.. ‘Global’? Were there, or will there be, rallies in other countries tied to this? What’s next, their ‘Solar System Rally for Humanity’?

  5. The only check their facts when they want the story to be true. If they tell a lie they’ll be thanked by the boss.

  6. “A basic tenet of journalism USED TO BE to check your facts.”

There, fixed it. Whatever standards of “journalistic ethics” may have once applied are no longer in force. The left is entirely ends driven and actively rejects any sort of objective code of conduct.
