The Pentagon is setting in motion a plan to lift the longstanding prohibition on allowing transgender men and women to serve openly in the military.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced the plan Monday and said the individual services will have six months to prepare for the historic policy change…

The announcement comes nearly four years after the 2011 repeal of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy that allowed homosexuals to serve openly…

In June, an openly transgender airman attended a reception at the White House at President Obama’s invitation. Senior Airman Logan Ireland wore his uniform and brought his fiancé, Army Cpl. Laila Villanueva, a transgender woman, who wore civilian clothes.

Carter has ordered the creation of a “working group” to study the issue over the next six months the identify any readiness implications of welcoming transgender persons to serve openly. That will be led by acting Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Brad Carson.

  1. Transgender is the least of our worries. This is a non-issue the more important questions should be are they Oathkeepers!

  2. I left the military when slick willy mandated the don’t ask don’t tell bs. To me this is being orchestrated to destroy the military.

  3. I actually fully support trans people in the same way I support any other odd ball minority. But this actual issue is pretty much a complete smoke screen. Just like any other thing that the squatter in chief campaigns for out of the White House. Gender Identity disorder is a statistically rare condition in the general. Let along among services me and women. I really don’t really mind if there is trans soldiers in the service nor do I mind if he VA has to cover it. But it really is a non-issues for the military as a whole.

Seems to me that this is just one more example of this administration trying to take a swipe at any institution that’s traditionally conservative in it’s values.
