Testimonial: I am a 42 year old father of three daughters. From the age of 14, I have been under an oath of varying degrees.
With the blessing of my parents, I joined the Junior Division of our Local Volunteer Rescue Squad when I was 14. My first oath was as an EMT, “Be it pledged as an Emergency Medical Technician, I will honor the physical and judicial laws of God and man. I will follow that regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of patients and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, nor shall I suggest any such counsel…..”
At the age of 17, I joined the Marine Corp on the delayed entry program and began boot camp at Paris Island in June of 1989. I turned 18 in boot camp, and it was one of the best things I have ever done.
I took an oath that all members of the military take, I… do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
I blew out my knee ending my military service, but continue to serve my community and country proudly. I believe in the creed, “First Do No Harm” and in my current position, as the training officer for our search and rescue team, “That Others May Live”.
I believe in the Constitution, I believe in America, even though I do not agree with the turn our country has taken over the past several years. I believe that history often repeats itself, and I can only pray, that in the words of Thomas Paine, If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.
I reaffirm, here, my oath to the United States, and to the Constitution! I, Michael Maggard, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
I also affirm that I will not obey ANY unlawful orders against the Constitution and the American people.
It is time this country gets back to its roots. It is time for the American people to wake up!
