The first I heard of this was in a Reason Magazine article, here: http://reason.com/blog/2014/06/04/feds-reanimate-the-janet-renoera-domesti
But I missed an earlier notice published by the L.A. Times: http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-80374564/
And the L.A. Times prolly got their scoop from the Wall Street Journal: http://online.wsj.com/articles/justice-department-relaunches-domestic-terror-task-force-1401820635
Domestic Terrorism Executive Committee
From Reason Magazine’s article:
Contrary to at least one early report, the revived committee’s purview will not include incidents like last year’s Boston Marathon bombing, since the men accused of that crime appear to have been influenced by foreign groups. The focus will be on purely homegrown activities, according to a spokesman for the Justice Department.
In other words, Washington’s terror-hunting apparatus intends to focus more attention on the domestic front. What exactly that will mean in practice remains to be seen, but civil libertarians are wary. Gabriel Rottman, the American Civil Liberties Union’s legislative counsel on the First Amendment, has already condemned the committee. “Given the already lenient standards for when the government can launch an investigation,” he tells me, “the announced task force is both unnecessary and an invitation to investigate Americans because of the beliefs they hold, not because of any wrongdoing.”
From the L.A. Times article:
The task force will chiefly comprise leaders from the FBI, the Justice Department’s National Security Division and U.S. Attorneys. Called the Domestic Terrorism Executive Committee, it is a recreation of a task force formed by former Atty. Gen. Janet Reno after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. The task force fell into disuse after 9/11.
Though the original task force, which was little known, focused mainly on right-wing zealots, Holder’s version is aimed at U.S. citizens or visitors radicalized via the Internet. Holder said the government will continue to fight terrorists abroad.
From Wall Street Journal article:
The task force the Justice Department is reviving was originally launched in the aftermath of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. It was scheduled to meet on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, but given the terror attacks of that day it didn’t meet, and the group’s work was quickly eclipsed by the response to those attacks and the effort to defeat al Qaeda in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and elsewhere.
Now, Mr. Holder said in a statement, “we also must concern ourselves with the continued danger we face from individuals within our own borders who may be motivated by a variety of other causes, from antigovernment animus to racial prejudice.”

Bear in mind that DHS buys profiles on the American people from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and that the SPLC has consistently accused Oath Keepers of being an “extremist organization”, a “radical” organization, and a “potential problem for law enforcement”. That is what SPLC thinks of Oath Keepers. Fast forward that meme to Senator Harry Reid’s blatantly overt and widely published statement that the cowboys and their friends at the Bundy Ranch at Bunkerville, Nevada, are “Terrorists”. That also includes Oath Keepers, so we now know what Brother Reid thinks of Oath Keepers as well as anyone else who wishes to honor the U.S. Constitution as written.
I find it to be remarkable that the Constitution has created a Federal government which has steadily for the past 238 years worked arduously to centralize all local, County, State, and Federal power into one horrific concentration of over-funded, overly-empowered, extremely defensive, exceptionally intrusive, sometimes deadly, and always dangerous bulwark of arrogance. By the time the government which came out of the Constitution claims anyone seeking to honor and uphold and defend the Constitution which created it is a “terrorist”, we know we’re in deep doo-doo, and there is a huge FAN approaching us swiftly as we fly into the 21st Century as Americans. Oath Keepers beware – a collision is in store, and governments always resort to deadly force when they can’t sell their BS to a wary public.
Whilst keeping our Oaths, let’s also be aware that we each must, in his/her own way, also Keep The Faith. The Fedgov ‘keeps’ driving more and more deeply into the dark forest of tyranny. We must stand in our States to have our States stand against the Federal tyranny. Our work starts in our own homes and spreads outward to our communities, towns/Cities, and Counties. And by all means, let’s stand for the Bundy Ranch in southern Nevada.
