Sheriff Mandates Constitution Study
In the “Good Cop” category, Oath Keepers salutes Sheriff Brad Rogers of Elkhart County, Indiana, for taking a first step in educating his deputies and staff about the Constitution. We hope many other Departments will follow his lead.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department held mandatory departmental training on the United States Constitution on Friday.
The training sessions, held by former Indiana Congressman John Hostettler, provides attendees with a packet of information that follows a lecture which goes through every part of the Constitution.
According to the Elkhart Sheriff’s Department, the class goes into more detail into what the constitution actually says, versus what a judge would say.
Sheriff Brad Rogers believes the classes are important, which is why he made them mandatory for his staff.
“I thought it was important that you know when we raise our right hand to take the oath of office, we swear to uphold the United States Constitution and Indiana Constitution,” said Sheriff Rogers. “If we don’t know what’s in it, how can we uphold it?”
The training is split into three, two-day classes. The training session are $125 per person.

I’m glad to finally see someone step up to the plate! Thank you Sheriff Rogers! But I do question why the deputies have to pay $125 out of their own pocket? This makes very little sense to me.

After re-reading, I’m not sure who is paying the $125, I would hope it was the County.

Seems to me somebody could save $125 by just taking a copy of the Constitution home and reading it. Makes me think the sheriff doesn’t have much faith in the intellectual capacity of the guys he hires.

This is a great idea. Mandatory classes are the best way to educate these deputies on the Constitution. If they merely gave away pocket Constitutions, I bet that hardly anyone would take it seriously; however, if you make this mandatory training, they would!

Yes, and we have long talked of Constitution classes in boot camp. I know that when I joined and took the Oath, that was the last I heard about the Constitution throughout my enlistment.
I believe I have heard Sheriff Mack say that when he was Sheriff of Graham County, Arizona, he had each of his Deputies keep a pocket Constitution in their shirt pockets. This is a great idea.
Salute!

I carry a small complete copy with me that was issued for the bi-centennial. It has been in my purse since I purchased it. You see it is like the clean underwear oath your Mom made you take in case something happened to you some day. I carry it so that if something were to occur I would want those who find me to know that I loved my Republic and followed the Constitution. I want everyone to know that I will die a Patriot and a lover of that sacred oath I never formally took but follow for the love of my country.

Not only should it be mandatory for LE … Peace Officers … oh hell, who am I kidding … Law Enforcement Officers to read the constitution every 2 months, it should also be mandatory for them to read The Federalist Papers and anti Federalist Papers every year.
But really, would it make a Damn 5-0 difference?
Da law is da law.
Right guys?

For everyone who reads my blog. I am asking you, that on this coming 4th of July, to let this, or whatever flag of Independence you may have, fly on your home.

And to pass this along to everyone you know.
Lets do this. Spread the word everywhere. Let them know we are out there.
If you don’t have one, there is a good bet you local surplus store or gun shop does.

@Lee: The classes are at the Sheriff’s expense.
