Sen. Schumer proposes “no-ride list” for Amtrak trains

NEW YORK (Reuters) – A senator on Sunday called for a “no-ride list” for Amtrak trains after intelligence gleaned from the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound pointed to potential attacks on the nation’s train system.
Sen. Charles Schumer said he would push as well for added funding for rail security and commuter and passenger train track inspections and more monitoring of stations nationwide.
“Circumstances demand we make adjustments by increasing funding to enhance rail safety and monitoring on commuter rail transit and screening who gets on Amtrak passenger trains, so that we can provide a greater level of security to the public,” the New York Democrat said at a news conference.
U.S. officials last week said evidence found after the raid on bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan indicated the al Qaeda leader or his associates had engaged in discussions or planning for a possible attack on a train inside the United States on September 11, 2011.
Schumer, citing U.S. intelligence analysts, said attacks were also considered on Christmas and New Year’s Day and following the president’s State of the Union address.
He called on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to expand the Secure Flight monitoring program, which cross-checks air travelers with the terror watch list in an attempt to prevent anyone on the “no-fly list” from boarding, for use on Amtrak.
Such a procedure would create an Amtrak “no-ride list” to keep suspected terrorists off the U.S. rail system, he said.
The September 11 Commission recommended in 2004 that the government check travelers’ names against terror watch lists before they board passenger trains or cruise ships, but such a program was not adopted.
Schumer noted that rail and port security grant funding was cut by $50 million under last month’s federal budget compromise, but he said developments warrant reconsideration and increased rail safety funding.

I’m beginning to wonder if all politicians have little walnut-brains like dinosaurs. And when they are presented with a “problem” or a “threat,” the ONLY thing their little minds can imagine is MORE POWER AND CONTROL FOR THEM and LESS LIBERTY FOR US.

If statists are people who believe in the power of the state, then we can know that politicians are statists as soon as they campaign for office. Unfortunately, each election a new batch of statists joins the incumbent statists and, with the exception of Ron Paul and Rand Paul, all we get is a government run by statists.
I long for the day when America will prefer Constitutionalists over statists.

I watch very few movies and I am not an admirer of Hollywood, but I have picked up some good quotes that I really like.
I am reminded of the following quote from the movie, “Red October”. Tell me things haven’t changed. If they made the movie today they would have to change the script.

We are losing our country “thanks” to Senator Charles Schumer and his accomplises in the U.S. Congress. Can’t the U.S. Senator from New York just stick to shredding the Second Amendment. Who are the voters who elected this guy to Congress? The Russians dissolved the Soviet Union, and this guy wants to resurrect it in America.

GLOBALISM IS ALIVE AND WELL IN AMERICA.
Thanks to the U.S. free trader “globalists” the U.S. trade deficit jumped to $48,000,000,000.00 in March 2011 as imports headed higher. There are two good things, though, the freedom-loving Communist Chinese love it, as well as American businesses whose profits keep growing at the expense of the American Republic and the American economy. (Where is all the talk about bringing “democracy” to China by American businesses and the American government, as they shake hands with the Communist leadership. I guess that they are too busy negotiating a trade pact with South Korea to further increase our trade deficits and offshore more American jobs.)
TARIFFS NOW.
(The “First” U.S. Congress figured out what to do, and how to do it. But I guess that they were smarter than we are, or maybe just more patriotic to their country – economic patriotism.)

How can any citizen of New York State vote for this man? He never tires of shredding the U.S. Constitution. Why does the news(?) media always give him a microphone? After all we have ninety-nine other U.S. Senators.
