Each Time I Retook My Oath, I Found Myself More Committed
I took my Oath, for the first time, on 16 June 1981. To be very honest, I did not understand what the Oath meant but I followed suit with everyone else. I was more concerned with the fact that I was joining the military and had no idea what I would be confronted with. My original intent was to serve my four years and then to move on.
I ended up serving 22 years in the U.S. Air Force. Something happened during my time in the military. Each time I retook my Oath, I found myself more committed, more sincere in proclaiming my defense of the Constitution. Throughout the years I served and all the different cultures I experienced, I realized that our Republic is the most free, the best example of offering true liberty to those that would call our Republic home.
Looking back, I would change nothing. The Oath I took, to defend the Constitution, means a lot to me. Upon retiring from the military, I was never asked to rescind my Oath, never asked to stand down, never asked to just walk away from my convictions. Today, I still consider myself bound to the Oath I swore, all those many years ago. I proudly stand with my fellow Oath Keepers and offer everything that I am, to defend the Constitution, once again.
