I have never considered the oath to have expired

patch12It struck me with the force of a thunderbolt, as the sergeant spoke the words, that enlistment involved very nearly the same obligations undertaken by the President. The moment I swore my oath of enlistment in the Army, I fully realized the solemnity of the duty I was undertaking. I had no prior knowledge of the enlistment oath, but I was familiar with the constitutionally prescribed oath of the president.

I have never considered that oath to have expired, just as Stewart Rhodes has expressed. I checked out Oath Keepers’ website the same day after being told of the organization by an acquaintance, and knew immediately that I must join. We have freely sworn to support and defend a set of IDEAS, not a person, and not an assembly of persons known as “The Government”, but the ideas and principles expressed in the Constitution.

To the extent that anything set down by the hand of Man can be sacred, our Constitution and its fore-shadow the Declaration of Independence are indeed sacred documents that were surely guided by “Nature’s God” toward the formation of a Republic that IS the best hope of mankind on Earth. I WILL defend these sacred ideas against all enemies, foreign and domestic, even if those domestic enemies are pretenders in offices of government.
