My Oath and some notable historic dates

Battle of Lexington ConcordApril 19, 1775. A number of Massachusetts residents forcefully express their displeasure with a government that is intent on imposing it’s authority on citizens against their will. They called themselves “The Minutemen.”

December 13, 1939. “Gone With The Wind” premiers in Atlanta, Georgia to thunderous acclaim, eventually earning ten Academy Awards. In 2005, members of the American Film Institute voted “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn!” the most memorable line in cinema history.

October 4, 1965. Before induction into the Marine Corps, I’m required to take an oath to, among other things, “…preserve and defend the Constitution of the Unites States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.” Shortly thereafter I’m issued a rifle and taught how to use it.

November 27, 1976. MGM Studios releases “Network,” a move that eventually earns four Oscars. Most memorable line; “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

March 23, 2010. The President of the United States knowingly signs into law a bill that violates  provisions of the US Constitution, thus making the law illegal. As this bill is the latest, largest, and most oppressive in a succession of illegal laws coming out of Washington, I can only conclude that many/most of our elected officials are deliberately attempting to undermine the authority of the Constitution.

The connection between the events cited above should be obvious. As were the The Minutemen, “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!” The legitimacy of our government is based upon the consent of the governed. This government has blatantly disregarded it’s historically defined limits, arrogantly ignored the consent of the majority of the governed, and openly adopted, “the ends justify the means” philosophy of despots, and I DO give a damn!

While the terms of my enlistment were satisfied long ago, the oath I took was open-ended. It expires when I do. That said, I will oppose any legislation enacted in violation of any of the provisions of the Constitution. By definition, it cannot be legal, regardless of who signs it. If my government expects me to respect and obey the laws of the land, I have the right to expect the same from my government. While I see no need to utilize the methods employed by the Minute Men, like them, neither do I see an obligation to obey illegal laws. Doing so would make me complicit in their lawlessness and a betrayal of my oath. I will oppose anyone, regardless of political affiliation, who attempts to usurp the authority of the Constitution. They are the “domestic enemies” that I swore to defend against. Every elected official takes the same oath that I did. They have the same obligation.

The oath of office is not and should not be an archaic, meaningless ceremony. Failure to abide by that pledge must have consequences. I have heard much about the need to defeat everyone voting for the Health Care Bill in coming elections. I agree, but simply losing an elected position while retaining exorbitant retirement and life-time health benefits at tax-payer expense hardly seems sufficient redress. When I took that oath I was told that failing to honor it was a treasonable offense. Should politicians be held to a lesser standard?

It has been said that the citizens of a democracy get the government they deserve, and why should it be otherwise? We do not hold our politicians accountable for their actions. The only penalty the people who brought us to this point have to worry about is losing an election. Until they face the same consequences as the lowliest private in uniform, what have they to fear? “We the people,” have failed in our responsibilities. It is we who have made that oath meaningless by not insisting that it be honored. We have not held them accountable. We do not refer to their offense by it’s proper name, treason!

Yes, we do need to defeat everyone who voted for the health care bill, but we need far more than that if the America our children inherit retains any resemblance to the country founded by our forefather’s. We need to elect people with the courage to hold their predecessors accountable, to nullify existing illegal legislation, to censure judges who violate their own oaths and legislate from the bench. We need to elect people who desire to eliminate the status quo, people who will remember they are elected to represent our interests, not to become a part of a “ruling class.” We need people who have actually read the Constitution and have some understanding of the meaning of it’s words. We need people with at least a vague idea of how economics work in the real world. We need people who understand that the primary job of our government is to protect individual liberty’s. We need people willing to clean house! And we need the same kind of people elected at the state and local levels. Obama is correct, we need “change!”

If you disagree with any of the positions I’ve taken, or don’t fully understand why I’ve taken them, contact an attorney and file suit against your school system for fraud. You’re proof of their guilt.

If you’re willing to stand up for the ideals that founded this country, write out your own statement. Spread it far and wide. Make sure that your elected officials (Federal and State) know that you’re serious about holding them accountable. If writing your own statement seems too daunting a task, use this one as a model. Remember the lesson of “The Minutemen.” Change won’t come without action.

On the other hand, if you would prefer to wait to see how things turn out, the end result of the “change” Obama and his fellow travelers have in mind for us is already on display. Take a look around inter-city Detroit, or Washington, D.C., or any one of the hundreds of cities and towns run by a Democratic majority with Union backing. Talk to the citizens who live there, especially with those who have children in the school systems, then make your decision. You still have a choice, the same one Benjamin Franklin summed up with his prophetic statement, “We must all hang together, or most assuredly, we will all hang separately!”

I’m Jim Packer. I live in China, Michigan and I approved this message.

Today, also on the historic April 19th, I show you my respect and admiration. I wish they had Oathkeepers in my country too! But then again, which Oaths should they defend? My country has no Bill of Rights let alone a right to keep and bear arms for self-defense!

I ask you to keep on fighting for liberty and our natural rights protected by the US constitution. That we few, we very few, European freedom lovers can still have hope in our hearts.
