I am a Veteran. I believe in the Constitution. I shall uphold my oath
So I get bussed to some air force base all because i half heartedly signed a piece of paper. I get shuffled into this room, not knowing what’s happening. This Marine Sergeant at Arms comes in, holding a bible. He looked like a fat asshole, to me. Little did I know what was bout to take place. I placed my hand on the bible and swore, to the best of my ability, to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States. I didn’t give a shit. I just wanted to get out of there.
Funny thing happened. A paperwork snafu caused me to have to go to Pittsburgh again. I stood there, cocky, already knowing what was going to happen. But this time, I was marched into a room with all the state flags and the US flag in the center. I stood in awe. I raised my right hand, looking at the US Flag in the center of all those State flags, and swore the oath to defend and protect the Constitution again. But this time, I meant it. I felt what it was like to swear something and actually mean it. After I swore the oath, I was sent to basic and subsequently Iraq twice… but I still feel today if not for that second swearing-in, I would not be the person I am today. I am a veteran. I believe in the Constitution. I shall uphold my oath, until I am in the grave. That is what I swore. I paid attention to the words that second time I was sworn in. And I won’t forget them.

I was told by an old vet years ago that there is a difference between swearing on oath to the constitution of the “United States”which would only include D.C. or an oath to the constitution of the” United States of America”, I cant recall my exact wording when I took the oath when joining the Air Force, but I have been curious to the validity of such a statement if anyone could clear the air for me I would appreciate it.
