Bill O’Reilly Advocates Gun Confiscation in Interview with Oath Keepers Founder Stewart Rhodes

Last night Feb 18th, Stewart Rhodes appeared on Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly’s show, The Factor, in response to the previous night’s appearance of the SPLC’s Mark Potok who once again attempted to smear Oath Keepers. Both videos are below

Mark Potok on Bill O’Reilly -- Wed. February 17th

Stewart Rhodes on Bill O’Reilly -- February 18th

factorAfter the show with Stewart, The internet lit up with articles and comments all over the place discussing Bill O’Reilly’s comments supporting gun confiscation during Hurricane Katrina as well as the Oath Keepers organization in general. One of the most active discussions was over at Sean Hannity’s message board.

http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?t=1839931

We also came across the Gateway Pundits which in a short article titled, Bill O’Reilly Supports Gun Confiscation During Weather Emergencies,  the author made a great statement saying, “Last I checked, the Second Amendment doesn’t mention anything about severe storms.” included in the article was a statement made from Glenn Reynolds of  Instapundit adding:

That’s funny. O’Reilly calls the opposing position “extreme,” but such gun confiscation is illegal under federal statute, and as a matter of constitutional law; in fact, the city of New Orleans lost a lawsuit over gun confiscation during Katrina. But then, O’Reilly’s no libertarian, to put things mildly. And he’s consistently weak on the law, also to put things mildly. Still, he should have been better briefed for this show, as he came across looking like a fool, and making his “extreme” guest look sober and well-informed by comparison.

In addition David Codrea over at the Gun Rights Examiner wrote a great article on the show and commented on Bill O’Reilly’s statements. Check it out here.

  1. Did we not have concentration camps during WW2 for Japanese Americans?

  2. FYI

You might be interested to know that the left-wing loon group at the Southern Poverty Law Center is linking the IRS attacker Andrew Stack to Tea Party “Patriots” and right-wing group the genius Potok said on their blog …

“This attack comes amid the absolutely explosive growth of the right-wing militias and the larger antigovernment ‘Patriot’ movement, which includes thousands of so-called tax protesters who believe the federal income tax is illegal” said Mark Potok, director of the SPLC’s Intelligence Project. “There is a populist rage out there about what is seen as the coddling of rapacious elites, like the mortgage bankers who kept receiving multimillion dollar bonuses, even as working Americans seem to keep losing more and more.”

  3. mark potok is a scumbag and bill o’reilly is a loudmouth NWO SHILL!

  4. I must repectfully disgree with Mr.O’Reillys position and the position of the far left wing extremist Mark Potok. In “times of emergency” like the Los Angeles Riots, yes things were out of control but the police could not control the situation. This makes it all the more important for the law abiding citizen to have the means of self defense. Peaceable armed law abiding Americans are on the side of law enforcement not against it.

  5. Just reviewed the Constitution after O’Reilly’s program. I cannot find any wording that would infringe upon our rights as defined in the Bill of Rights, other than in the case of Invasion or Rebellion. There is nothing in the Constitution that allows the State to infringe upon the 2nd Amendment. If I am mistaken, please identify this.

Also, the issue that should have been identified was Obama’s executive order allowing Interpol to operate in the United States with impunity and no accountability. This is a treasonous act.

  6. This type of media coverage is only exposing them more and more for their corruption. We are fast approaching time my friends to show the true spirit of the Oath Keepers as guardians of the Republic. We must remember each other as things start to fall. The market I am sure we all realize is on the verge of total collapse and we will be called to honor our pledges to defend the people! Do not forget we represent all who wish to be truly free!

  7. Great job Stewart. I like Bill O., but on some issues, he is definitely, not looking out for you.

  8. Thank you, Mr. Rhodes, for your latest parachute jump into the rough terrain of the O’Rielly Factor. Not always a nice place to land, but you did well. You pointed out to me, and others, how shallow Bill can be when considering Freedom. He may lose a long-time supporter unless he make a hearty retraction. Even so, I will always see him through a skeptical eye from now on. Again, thank you, sir.

  9. Dear Sirs;
I am extremely upset @ the interview (beat down)of Mr.Rhodes. I like O’Reilly but not always because he seems to lean left more and more.

Mr. Potok, we all know where he comes from.

Here are some historical facts that most people seem to forget>
We all know about the atrocities of Hitlers Germany (they owned no guns also.

All of the dictators of the world have never let the people own guns (wonder why).

Katrina as hammered on by O.Rielly the reason for the police home invasions were to control violence ( I remember big screen TV’s walking out of stores when they had no power nor a home to take them to.

The reason for the order to confiscate was a weather event which always ends in looting and violence against the law abiding citizens.

Today under our administration, they want to take control of all forms of information sources: TV, Radio

O’Bama wants and is working behind the scenes to implement these changes so that in case of “National Emergency” or “Computer Hackings” that he can shut down Certain sections, web sites for as long as he (they) want. Folks, please READ BETWEEN THE LINES!

Remember the LosAngeles riots that resulted from the beating of Mr. King> Remember the rioters pulling that innocent trucker from his cab and beating him almost to death with a concrete block on his head> maybe if he could have carried a gun things might have turned out different(yeah, he would have been put in prison for defending his own life because some state atty., would has stated that he wasn’t in danger of physical harm.

I am against violence of ANY kind i still believe in the right do defend oneself and family.Rember-Australia confiscated guns some years ago so it CAN happen here.

If Mr. O’Rielly wants to give up his rights and liberties to any politician or is expecting any justice from any judge or court system, he is either niave or uniformed! He reports on this stuff of justice and the courts nearly every day if not week. Enough for one rant. I Love my country and the freedoms that are possible today by the blood given by millions. Hell they teach less history and patriotim more than ever and less about the founding fathers.

Remember, this can be taken away by the stroke of a pen for any reason and this in not a party vs. party debate. Remember Germany and Marx, Mao, Stalin, and Lenin< and the middle East. All it takes is one generation.

One question for all of us to dwell on: Why does the present want a youth corp. of 200,000 people to train in public service and be armed as well or better than our military is? Think about this, long and hard!

    Sincerely,

    Dr. T

  10. People need to write to Bill O’Reilly and tell him how they feel about states applying Gestapo type tactics to disarm the law abiding citizen.
This is a terrible and unconstitutional intrusion into the lives of the innocent..
Bill should be reminded that the NRA won a lawsuit that proved the state was WRONG.
    He’s at orielly@foxnews.com

  11. O’reilly is not news…he’s opinion. Precious little news gets reported these days anyway as network (formerly news) programs strive to entertain in their competition for ratings. Everyone knows this. I’m not sure the ‘doomsayers’ are right with their dire warnings of pending Armageddon…but something is afoot in America these days…Oathkeepers, Tea Party, something. Can’t quite put my finger on it…but I like the direction in which it appears to be going. Stick with your program…you are being heard…and admired.

  12. Good interview, Stewart. You handled the trickery very well. Here’s the best article on ol’ Billy Boy I’ve ever read… gotta throw in some humor from time to time!

    http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=bill_oreilly

  13. I wrote a post on this issue and just how ill information O’Reilly is, you can read it here and your feedback is welcome.

A bold fresh piece of reality for Bill O’Reilly

  14. I’m amazed that any rational, intelligent person would take anything Bill O’Buffoon says seriously. He is a 110% “hustler and clown”, as are most of the phony talking-heads on Fox. Bill O’Ego’s ignorance and arrogance are surpassed only by president Obummer.

And don’t allow yourself to be fooled into believing that Fox is some kind of conservative network. They are not!

  15. I was quite shocked over Mr. O’Reily’s thoughts on the disarming of Americans, it seems that he is the radical who would see our rights trampled upon. They are making law abiding citizens out to be the boogie man, when in fact, the only boogy-men are the ones that hold the attention of the camera and microphone. What about those who have been disenfranchised by the system, forsaken by employers? And being a current member of the U.S. Military, labeled as a potential terroist.

  16. Bill was clearly wrong in agreeing with the Marshall law tactics that were used by the police and contract military personnel. With Bills highly intellegent research staff he should have been notified by them that gun confiscation of the law abiding citizens was not justified and not a lawful order during this emergency. How would Bill feel if he had 3 gang members breaking into his house just and hour after the police removed his guns that he would have used for protection? I wrote a ‘pithy’ note to Bill, but of course it was never mentioned. I believe we should have a mass mailing to Sean Hannity to see if he will provide a more ‘balanced’ report instead of Bill’s tactic of a condending attitude from the start of the interview. I’ve already written an emial to Sean and if any others would like to do the same you can reach him at http://www.hannity.com then click on ‘contact’.

  17. Send flowers to Potok!!! We,OK, couldn’t have bought for millions the exposure he gave OK. I’m sure new members are arriving daily.
If we could only get Pulosi, Reid, & Axelrod to say something nasty about OK the membership would be in the millions.
Nice job of handling O’Reilly Mr. Rhodes. I don’t know your background but you did well for jumping straight in to the “big league” skipping the minors.

Good luck and God speed to each and every one!

  18. Is Bily-Boy not aware that President Bush signed a Post-Katrina Executive Order Prohibiting the confiscation of Citizen Firearms during ANY emergency because of the outcry after Katrina?

  19. I think Bill O’Reily must have been sipping on some of his cool-aid when he intervied Stewart. I also think he qualifies for the pinhead of the year. Wake up Bill you have been rocked to sleep!!

  20. Wake up Bill O and smell the roses!!

  21. Amazing that Bill O’Reilly is the voice of reason in this interview.

To call hurricane Katrina “bad weather” is ignorant and just plain stupid.

You guys aren’t non-partisan yes, but you are all wack-o.

  22. Jimmy: You call people wackos for believing in the constitution? You call people wackos for being law abiding? Are we wackos for pledging to support and defend the law of the land? Are we wackos for standing up for the civil rights of Americans? What planet do you live on?
If you did your reaseach you will find that Louisiana LOST a lawsuit for disarming peacable citizens and denying them their civil rights. A permanent injunction was issued by the courts against the mayor ,police chief and city. Look it up.

  23. PLEASE TAKE MOMENT AND READ:

I am a Doctor and not a member of Oath Keepers.

Specializing in mental health issues, I can categorically state Oath Keepers are NOT wackos or crazy. Oath Keepers, as I understand their goal and purpose, is to insure the American People remain in control of this great country, and that the government does not violate the rights of Americans.

EVERYONE of us has an OBLIGATION to own and learn how to use firearms. The Second Amendment has nothing to do with sports or even self-defense against criminals, though being able to protect oneself and one’s family and neighbors from a criminals is encompassed in the Second Amendment.

The Government becomes a criminal organization when it removes firearms from individuals, incarcerates citizens who have firearms (but have not committed a violent crime), and most importantly, under our Constitution, the government becomes a criminal organization when it no longer listens to the people and becomes a tyrannical. The tyranny takes many forms: taxes, limiting free speech, misuse of imminent domain, ceasing to govern for the people, unilaterally removing persons rights.

The tyranny has slowly developed since the early 19th century with more our government removing rights in the name of whatever was the popular political reason at the time. “It’s for the environment. It is for the children. It is for the good of the the poor. It is for the benefit of the less fortunate.”

These reasons for action by government are not immoral interests. But it is unconstitutional and foolish for the government to misuse it’s power to impose laws and regulations when these are moral issues best addressed by the private sector and by individuals who CHOOSE to exercise their LIBERTY to address these concerns IF they CHOOSE to. THAT is LIBERTY and FREEDOM. Government is haphazard, usually (but not always) corrupt, motivated and controlled by those who have their own power and self-interest at stake, and not those of the people.

I am not suggesting the government is a tyranny at this time. But our government has moved so far left, they are closer to socialism than they are to liberty.

The issue is, as it has been throughout history and even as seen today, those with the guns and SUPERIOR weaponry rule everyone else. Our Founders new and saw this in England. They knew “we the people” have our last line of defense only by being armed against a government, which by it’s very nature, inclines to tyranny as all governments do. So the government must be kept at bay. The government, despite it being well meaning by some, is NEVER your friend because every law instituted, every regulations imposed removes one of your freedoms (aside from the most basic criminal laws which are needed.) God help us since most government employees and politicians believe the absurdity, of “I am from the government and I am here to help.” No one needs that kind of help. What everyone needs is opportunity, a good education and a loving family. Government does none of these.

Every liberal I have known are, by their nature, some of the most dysfunctional, though some well-intentioned, mentally handicapped people I have known. The liberal dysfunction is dangerous and manifested in: 1) Arrogance they know best for everyone, which leads to their demanding to 2) Control everyone, which leads to either an individual or a congress/legislature being 3) Tyrants over others. In any system, whether a family, a school, a country, this strangles the life out of those involved and leaves all those under such rule, empty, hopeless, emotionally and motivationally dead, walking through life, but not a part of life, for their freedoms, individuality and opportunities have been stripped from them with the removal of true liberty.

Take hold of your freedom now, or you will lose it and your children with be encumbered by regulations and laws that stand in their way of success and happiness. (E.g.: You can not take a medication that may be helpful until the FDA approves; Old ladies are treated as terrorists, while suspicious Middle Easterners are allowed to board a plane unobstructed. In some states you cannot build your own home as you like because of building codes making such a dream too expensive. Every dollar taxed, now equaling almost 5 months of your years work goes to a politician or bureaucrat, who does not care about you, your family or your future.)

Take hold of YOUR FREEDOM NOW. Become involved politically and fight the good fight by finding, supporting and voting persons into office who will remove laws that suffocate you, and limit your pursuit of happiness and liberty.

By the way, I have watched Bill O’Reilly for years. He does not state his political position. However, if you truly listen to the composite of his opinions and positions, he seeks to protect “the folks” by rooting our corruption; but, he is a Progressive because he thinks the answer is more, and not less, government control. His message against corruption is superb. His solution of more laws and regulations is dangerous, and just more of what has strangled everyone in this country. The government will never be able to do for you, what you need to be doing for yourself, because you will always care more about yourself and your family, more than anyone else. Your power resides with you. End government control and remove the agencies who by their definition, seek to control your life, and remove your choices.

    Thank you Oath Keepers.
    Dr. Roberts

  24. LET IT HAPPEN, BECAUSE WE ARE READY. THIS GOVERNMENT IS COMING TO A HEAD, THIS FACIST GOVERNMENT.. I am involved in several active groups.. and let me be VERY CLEAR, BRING IT UNCLE SAM, WE ARE READY…………. I am not afraid to show my name, when it is over, they will know it well… happy hunting

  25. Mr O needs to read the Constitution…it does not mention martial law OR “Executive Orders” (read dictator) The idea of martial law has been debated and the supreme court has ruled that it’s use must be ratified by congress and cannot be imposed by a mayor, governor or military commander, they can only declare “emergencies”, which do not suspend the bill of rights. It is precicely for times of “emergency” that we need to be armed for mutual defense, including defense of all the other rights.
Without the Second Amendment, you will have none of the others.

  26. Least we not forget that O’reilly lives in the Sullivan Act state of New York, one of the most anti gun states in the union. We should also remember that today’s politicians believe in a “living constitution” which means that the constitution means what they say it means.

  27. I want to THANK BILL O’REILLY. His blustering nonsense against the Oath Keepers finally pushed me to join and contribute to a fine organization. Here in Georgia we have had great success increasing our membership for Georgia Carry.org at gun shows. Oath Keepers would probably also gain new memberships by presenting themselves at these venues.

    Thanks OK

  28. Name correction

  29. People like O’Reilly are the reason we need OKs.

  30. Bill O’Reilly’s belief system

Bill O’Reilly believes the American people have the right to defend themselves… unless the government believes it is endanger from the people. According to Bill O’Reilly the Judicial System, which is made up of lawyers, should decide when this is the right thing to do not the people. In other words, this is not a government by the people.

Bill O’Reilly also believes that Military, Police and FireFighters should not obey unlawful orders… except, the individual should not be the one to make the decision because that would lead to anarchy.

Given OReily’s position on these two issues he obviously does not believe that the power of the government comes from we the people. He obviously does not understand that we, the citizens of this nation, are the ones that delegate power to the government.

PS – We need to post O’Reilly’s response to emails from his Friday night’s show in order to “fair and balanced”. His remarks continue to expose his unapologetic positions on these issues.

  31. Mr. OReily in regards to your interview with Stewart Rhodes on 2/18/2010 It seems you stupe to a new low. Who are you trying to appease sir.Is this what you call fare & balanced.Surely not for the thousands of Men & Women who spilt there blood for our rights as Americans.Take your head out of it sir you dont have to lean to the left on this issue to keep your show on.They spilt it for you to.

  32. Here is the note I sent to oreilly@foxnews.com

    Bill,

I was distressed to find out your views on our Constitution. Our Natural Rights are endowed by our Creator, not by man. The Bill of Rights does not grant Rights, it protects pre-existing, Creator-endowed Rights. For proof of your misinterpretation on the 2nd Amendment note that, since shortly after Katrina, it has been expressly forbidden by State law to confiscate firearms in an emergency in LA. That way pinheads, who never bothered to inform themselves on our Supreme Law, won’t race about disarming the victims during an emergency, again.

Why not ask Judge Napolitano onto the show and ask him about the constitutionality of the firearms confiscation in NOLA during Katrina. Try not to interrupt him, as you did Mr Rhodes, whom you described as an ex-soldier, but omitted his expertise on the Constitution. Your arrogant dismissal of Mr. Rhodes’ irrefutable facts was disgraceful. Do you seriously believe our unalienable Rights are suspended for bad weather? For the record, I am a retired Army Infantry NCO with 23 years service and a member of Oath Keepers. We take our Oath seriously, and it doesn’t expire until we do.

We have to inform our military and law enforcement personnel on the Constitution and their Oath to support and defend the Constitution. The military never gave us ANY instruction on the Constitution during my service. It is up to us, the individual unit leaders to reach, teach and inspire our troops to know and honor the Constitution, in accordance with their Oaths. That way, they won’t get caught by surprise and obey unconstitutional, therefore unlawful, orders during the stress of an emergency, as seen in NOLA during Katrina.

  33. First and foremost, why are people calling Obama a fascist for something that happened in 2005? What does he have to do with the government response to Hurricane Katrina? Why aren’t you focusing your ire on George Bush and his administration?

Second – Marital law was NOT declared in New Orleans after the hurricane.

“On August 31, 2005, the Louisiana Attorney General’s office clarified “reports in some media that ‘martial law’ [had] been declared in parts of storm-ravaged southeast Louisiana, saying no such term exists in Louisiana law,” the New Orleans Times Picayune reported.”

There is nothing even called Martial Law in the state of Louisiana.

Third – you’re talking about probably the largest natural disaster to hit the U.S. ever, leaving over 1,800 dead and over a million homeless, and your organization is calling it “bad weather” – not sure people who are supposed to be taking an oath to protect its fellow Americans could be so insensitive, seem to be more concerned with gun possession instead of trying to rebuild the city and help its residents.

Finally, which is really the end-all of this ridiculous argument, and makes me really question what this group is about is that on October 9, 2006, President Bush passed the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006, which prohibits the confiscation of legally-possessed firearms during a disaster. So whatever might have happened in 2005, is now prohibited by federal law.

Is anyone here even aware of this law, or do you want to just continue promoting fallacies and wingnut conspiracy theories?

  34. Jimmy:If you believe that there is not a conspiracy to disarm the American public and nulify the US Constitution, just examine the records ( and statements) of Rahm Emmanuel, David Axlerod, Barbara Boxer, Charles Shumer, Diane Feinstein, Russ Feingold, Carl Levin, Bernie Sanders, Al Franken, Frank Lautenberg, Michael Blomberg, and Arlen Specter. These poiticians are rabidly anti-constitution and they have one other thing in common that I won’t bother to mention.

  35. I always distrust the Media even the ones that
Claim to be Fair & Balanced//When you are a big
media Icon Like Bill O..You take everything from
the literal sense,,He does not git it..I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now..but I
think I will look at him with a janduace eye from
now on..He has been siding with the Potus far too
much for my liking..I feel that the other shoe
is about drop…we had better be prepared..I read
the post: Open Letter to Law-Enforcement. It rings
with the truth..When TSHTF these people will need
to make a moral choice..They had better wake up to
their puppetmasters before its too late..Semper Fi

  36. Jimmy,

When the National Guard and police from jurisdictions across the nation are forcing NOLA citizens from their homes at gunpoint, how can you not see that as martial law? If it patrols the streets, guns drawn, enforcing curfews like a duck, and forces the citizens from their homes at gunpoint like a duck, then it is a martial law duck.

    Inform yourself.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-taU9d26wT4
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm5PC7z79-8&NR=1

We are talking about the Constitution and the various government schemes to violate the Rights of the People enshrined, therein. It has nothing to do with being ’sensitive’. It has everything to do with the Constitution and our Oaths.

We are aware of the law, Jimmy. That law was the direct result of the unconstitutional confiscations during Katrina. Several states, also, enacted laws to the same effect.

Name-calling and strawmen are the tactics of the fact-deficient, Jimmy. We are not impressed.

  37. You’re taking something that happened in 2005, and has since been deemed illegal, and the law has been changed, but you’re still complaining about it. Its like if you were a woman and calling for the right to vote or complaining that alcohol is illegal post-prohibition.

You really should find something better to do with your time instead of trying to fight a battle that has already been decided (and it came out in your favor). Its sad you guys don’t even realize it.

  38. O’Reilly points to the first order we will not obey, “We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.” O’Reilly then asks, “When has THAT happened?” That is when Stewart points to the confiscation in NOLA during Katrina. A VERY recent example of unconstitutional orders that were obeyed because the troops weren’t educated on the Constitution and their Oath. You might see it as a waste of time, but we don’t. Watch the videos at the top of the thread, and you will understand the discussion better.

  39. “I like O’Reilly” … but?

Some of you people have a lonnnnnng way to go. Unfortunately, I can see that many of you will never make it.

I wonder how many of you took Gillie and Rhodes challenge? Less than 1 percent?

    Start here:

  40. I hope the comment I made previously was posted, so if this duplicate, please excuse. I watch Reilly nightly, do not agree with most but learn a lot and that is why I would like to join Oathkeepers, a veteran of U.S. Marine Corps. female, old 85, disabled, can’t walk but a few steps, if I joined before please let me know. I cannot contribute money as have none. God Bless all you very, very Blessed and fine people, He will remember you, come soon Jesus.

  41. An interesting video on how Switzerland deals with gun ownership.

    http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/754.html

  42. So let me get this straight. Each member of the military must decide whether or not each and every order he or she receives is constitutional. It’s my understanding of the constitution that the U.S. Supreme Court decides if a law is constitutional or not. But your organization expects each individual service member to make such a decision without any legal training.

Under the U.S. Constitution, only congress has the authority to declare war. Therefore, our involvement in Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War I, Afghanistan and Gulf War II are unconstitutional.
So all of your members should refuse to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq. So why are they serving in these unlawful wars?

  43. Daniel says, “Under the U.S. Constitution, only congress has the authority to declare war. Therefore, our involvement in Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War I, Afghanistan and Gulf War II are unconstitutional.
So all of your members should refuse to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq. So why are they serving in these unlawful wars?”

Excellent question! Which leads us to a better question, Why is Congress funding unlawful wars? Most of them are just as clueless about the Constitution as the average uninformed high school graduate. Now you see the value in our efforts to teach constitutional principles and the importance of the Oath.

You don’t have to be a legal scholar to understand the Constitution. It means exactly what it says, in plain English.

And please do send in a testimonial about your service and what your oath still means to you. We’d be honored to post it on our site. Send it to Sam, or use the “submit your testimonial” button on the top of the front page of the site.

Thanks for your service and for your continuing love of country,

  45. I could not believe that O’Reilly stated that Rhodes’ contention that firearms’ confiscation during an emergency was an extreme position. I was so shocked that I immediately e-mailed O’Reilly’s website and informed him of why he was wrong. And I will never watch his show again. He is not a true patriot.
I’m a cop and I know how long it takes the police to respond to any call for service, let alone a call for service during an emergency during a situation like what occurred during Katrina.
This is EXACTLY when you as an American have the and need the right to bear arms.
God Bless the U.S. Constitution and the United States of America.

  46. The Second Amendment clearly asserts that each state is “free” and able to maintain a militia to remain free. This is unlike many other countries, where local militias are nonexistent. This is one of the unique qualities of the United States. If a foreign power were to invade America, they would have to overrun the militia of each state and each state would in turn have to surrender before the central government is forced to capitulate to such an invading power. The American Civil War is a clear example of how this works as each state of the former Confederacy was required to pledge allegiance to the federal government prior to being readmitted to the Union. It goes without saying that for a militia to be effective, it would necessarily need to possess arms. So why would the amendment go on to say that the people have the right to bear arms? That would be merely stating an obvious redundancy, since a militia is in the business of carrying out military functions, which includes the use of arms. The key to the second part of the amendment is that the “people” have the right to bear arms. By using the word “people,” the amendment is stating that it is a right to be enjoyed by all Americans in an inclusive sense.

  47. I have to ask. Wouldn’t those LEOs that were in one of the videos be breaking their oath by confiscating weapons? Slamming that old lady down for trying to protect herself? I mean, wouldn’t that be a justifiable reason to shoot in self defense?

  48. It didn’t surprise me in the least what O’Reilly said. Anyone who won’t define themself as either a “progressive” or “conservative” but a cop-out “independent” doesn’t have, in my opinion, any gonads. Guarantee you I wouldn’t want Mr.”O” having my back in a fire-fight. Right in the middle of the confrontation he may have one of his “progressative” moments causing him to question the validity of his actions. Thanks for nothing Mr.”O.” Electricity won’t be wasted watching your program ever again.

  49. I mostly like O’rilley, fighting for kids, ect. he seems to be week on The Constitution. I live in North Fl. and we have lots of hurricanes. I can say this, as a point of fact, if the, local, state, of fed. agency’s decieded to take away My stuff and my rite, and ability, to protect
“my stuff”, they may find that “my stuff” is bigger than “their stuff. My friends have “stuff” too. I’m saving up to join OATH KEEPERS

  50. Oh Yeah I’m a PATRIOT OF THE CONSTITUTION, not of the U.S.,or Florida, or the Govt.

  51. Jimmy’s assertion that “on October 9, 2006, President Bush passed the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006, which prohibits the confiscation of legally-possessed firearms during a disaster” is absolutely wrong. According to http://www.govtrack.us, H.R. 5013: Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006 was never passed by the Senate nor signed by the President.

  52. Please, please, please… Your viewpoints are varied. Many reasonable, some yes, extreme. Arguing over Bill O’Reilly’s “sound” reporting? I agree that he along with many other “news” stations are there merely for entertainment, not actual reporting. But please people, use SPELL CHECK in your posts! It adds more weight to what you are trying to say. The reader can focus on your statement vice the numerous spelling errors… just a suggestion.

  53. I really liked Bill O’Reilly, A fellow Masshole. But lately as I see our rights being assaulted in Washington, I do not see Bill as a defender of my freedoms any longer. His middle of the road stance on Constitutional issues is a symptom that this country is losing its way. The Constitution is a living document in only one respect, it has life because of those that have died to defend it. People of like mind with Bill are causing the most damage to our freedoms. He is using his stature among conservative people to soften the hit this government is taking on our Constitutional rights. This softer approach is what got us to this position in the first place.
The Constitution gives us the RIGHT to bear arms PERIOD. That means without exception. To say a right can be suspended for any reason is the slipperiest of slopes and one that I will not allow. I still honor my pledge, so I say this, attempt to take my rights away at your own peril.
Please Mr. O’Reilly come to your senses and stop softening the edges. The Constitution needs a voice and FoxNews may be her final bastion of hope on TV.

  54. For those that knock down Oath Keepers; you should be ashamed of yourselves. I served from 82-86 as a US Navy SEAL. I have been behind the seens on several occassions. I am hear to tell you that the government of this great nation is as corrupted as Russia was under Stalin leadership. Take the blindfolds off Americans…you have been deceived by the crooks that run this country. I will be joining Oath Keepers and I dare anyone that serves our BS government to try and take away my freedom or liberties. Hell will freeze over first. GOD BLESS ALL OF THE OATH KEEPERS.

  55. “…shall not be infringed.”

    infringe

in·fringe [ in frínj ] (past and past participle in·fringed, present participle in·fring·ing, 3rd person present singular in·fring·es)

    verb
    Definition:

    1. transitive verb disobey or disregard something: to fail to obey a law or regulation or observe the terms of an agreement

    2. transitive and intransitive verb encroach on somebody’s rights or property: to take over land, rights, privileges, or activities that belong to somebody else, especially in a minor or gradual way
    infringing on our personal freedom

[Mid-16th century. < Latin infringere "to damage" < frangere "to break"]

"…the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

No where does it say unless the government changes it's mind.

No where does it say that the government can regulate it.

No where does it say … IF … AND … or … BUT.

And excuse me people … WE DO NOT NEED Bill O’Reilly’s voice. Use your own MIND and VOICE. And who cares if Bill O'Reilly likes kids? I like kids too. Do you care? Does that qualify me as a patriot and constitutionalist?

Please people … wake up from your slumber. Take off your government issued psychedelic glasses.

In fact … forget everything they taught you in the government run propaganda mills and re-educate yourselves, turn off the stupid box and start reading the biographies of the founders of this country, the Federalist and anti-federalist papers, the constitutional debates … there is so much to be learned that they do not dare teach in the publik skule system.

You all voted for the repukocrats all these years … and here we are.

You all voted for the dumbocrats all these years … and here we are.

Why do you keep on doing the same thing year after year after year and expect a different outcome every time?

Because some talking bubble head tells you too?

You want to know the truth about some of you? If Bush had been elected to a third term … most of you wouldn't even be here.

Let's get something straight. You didn't suddenly lose your constitution when the Obamanation was elected. It has been going on a long long time. But hey, the funny money was rolling and credit cards were galore … you were having fun while your liberties and freedoms and your constitution was being destroyed piecemeal at a time.

I hate to say this, but it is to true for many of you … you are dim.

    Type in your search bar:

Bush + health care … check.

Obama + Health care … check.

Bush + PATRIOT Act … check.

Obama + PATRIOT Act … check.

    Bush + surge … check.

    Obama + surge … check.

    Bush + stimulus … check.

    Obama + stimulus … check.

    Etc., etc., etc.

Obama is the continuation of Bush like Bush was the continuation of Clinton who was the continuation of Bush Sr. … you don't get it do you?

Well … I am sure I have hurt some … fee-lings. I am sure I have hurt some … sensibilities. I am sure some feel as if I have slapped them in the face.

"Is it that insidious smile with which our petition has been lately received? Trust it not, sir; it will prove a snare to your feet. Suffer not yourselves to be betrayed with a kiss."

  56. And I thought you, brother Potok, could have done a better job. If you are not comfortable in a high pressure setting, please feel free to farm out the PR. O’Reilly can come here and “get some” should he chose to do so.

  57. *ALWAYS remember Oath keepers…….the Protestant Reformation brought us all of the political liberty that we know of today. There’s no such thing as national sovereignty without the Reformation. There’s no such thing as private rights without the Reformation. There’s no such thing as the Law of Nations, as we know of it today, of Montesquieu and the others, without the Reformation.

So, when the Reformation came with their doctrines of salvation by grace through faith alone, and that there was no need for the priesthood to go to Heaven—that all we need is salvation in Christ, and Romans 1:17: the righteous shall live by faith. When the Reformation came, it completely stripped Rome of its spiritual power. The priests were no longer wanted because the people were getting the word of God in a Bible, specifically in Holland, England, and Germany. And so, with these great revivals breaking forth and the Reformation happening, nations were breaking away from the power of the Pope. The Holy Roman Empire was breaking up. Charles V, the Emperor, resigned and became a monk and a gardener. So, the Lord was moving mightily in breaking the power of the Holy Roman Empire, started by Charlemagne and the Pope.

Well, this was not good for Rome because they were losing lots of money. The nations were not paying “Peter’s pence” anymore, which today we call “foreign aid” in this country. And so the Pope was very upset about his.

What’s he going to do? These nations are breaking away from us; they’re not under our temporal or spiritual power; and it’s very important to remember that the Pope claims two powers—spiritual and temporal—and with the breaking of his spiritual power, he then lost his temporal power. In other words, he no longer had the ability to rule the people through the king of the country, because the king was breaking away, like Henry VIII.

So, Henry VIII broke away from the Roman Church and formed the Church of England; he no longer was subject to the Pope. This was happening in England, in Germany, in Holland, and other places.

As a result of this, the Devil raised up Ignatius Loyola with his demonisms, his “spiritual exercises” and—because Loyola had been a member of the Spanish Alumbrados, which is what we call the Illuminati today, and he used the Jesuit Order to attempt to regain back what had been taken by the Reformation—what the Lord had done through Luther, Calvin, and Knox. And, by the way, Luther, Calvin, and Knox—none of those men died violent deaths. They all lived to older age and died peacefully, amidst the power of the Jesuit machinations.

The Council of Trent consists of 25 Sessions. Those 25 Sessions accurse and condemn all the doctrines of the Reformation. It condemns anybody who does not believe that the literal Jesus Christ is in the host [holy communion bread], and that his literal blood is in the wine. That’s called transubstantiation. Anybody who does not believe that is an accursed anathema. Anybody who believes that their salvation is outside the Catholic Church is accursed anathema. Anybody who believes in justification by grace through faith—anathema, accursed. Anybody who believes that the Pope is not the vicar of Christ—accursed, anathema. You see, all of these doctrines were being put forth as a result of reading the Bible, which produced the Reformation, and so the Jesuits accursed everything that the Reformers were preaching. This is all in Law called the Council of Trent.

In the 4th Session, which is probably the most important Session, the Jesuits condemn freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of conscience. So, no man has the right to choose his own religion; no man has the right to publish what he feels is the truth; and no man has the right to freedom of conscience.

Those rights were secured by our Baptist/Calvinist forefathers in the First Amendment. The man who wrote the First Amendment was James Madison, who was a Baptist/Calvinist, and he was told by that Baptist/Calvinist in Virginia, Doc. John Leland: “If you don’t secure all those rights, Virginia will not ratify the Constitution.” Virginia was a Baptist/Calvinist state.

So, we have a warfare between the Council of Trent and the doctrines of the Reformation, particularly as outlined by John Calvin in his Institutes Of The Christian Religion. Calvin [1536] wrote the Institutes Of The Christian Religion, he finished it when he was 27, and he dedicated it to the King of France. And because the Jesuits so hated him, he was driven from France and he resided in Geneva to the day of his death, when he became Governor of Geneva. It’s Calvin and his Institutes Of The Christian Religion vs. Loyola and his Council of Trent, if you want it sewed-up in two major documents.

The Council of Trent was the response of Rome to the Protestant Reformation. Council of Trent…… from 1545-1563, eighteen years. And Trent is a little town in Italy. So, it was a Council that took place in the town of Trent, Italy.

The Presbyterian Westminster Confession And Faith that was finished in 1648, after the 30 Years War, is another extension of Calvin’s Institutes, and is what the Church of Scotland and the Covenanters went by when they resisted the powers of Rome and England. That document is a major document, and it’s not the new Westminster Confession, it’s the old one of 1648, where they called the Pope the man of sin, that Roman Anti Christ, and they also denounced anti-Christian tyranny.

And that it is their duty, to use what they call “the sword of the spirit”, which is the Word of God, which we read in Ephesians, Chapter 6, and “the sword of just defense”—the gun, the sword.

So, us Calvinists believe that there is a time for peace and a time for war, and we do not refuse to go to the battlefield when it’s necessary. It was the Calvinists who gave us our political liberty in England with Cromwell. He was a Calvinist and an independent Baptist. It was Calvinists in Holland who gave the Dutch their political liberty, with William of Orange, and later his son, Prince Maurice, and then later, in our great country, when it was Washington, the Freemason who did not go into that Masonic Lodge that last 30 years of his life—in his own words—who was a Baptist and a Calvinist. He was baptized in the First Baptist Church of New York by one of his captains, Pastor Gano, all surrounded by Calvinists.

That’s why they didn’t surrender at Valley Forge; that’s why, when they were naked, when they went through the snow, barefoot, they endured that because they were Bible-believing Calvinists and they refused to submit to the tyranny of King George, who was controlled by the Jesuits.

And that is the soul of our country. If we lose that soul, we’ve lost everything. And those very same Baptists, in the Second Amendment, secured their right to bear arms, because they secured the right, the “sword of just defense”. And the “sword of the spirit” is contained in the First Amendment, the right to have the Bible never taken from them.

The two swords of Calvinism are secured in the First and Second Amendments. Without those first two Amendments, all the others are nothing.

  58. They can have my gun. Lead first that is.

  59. I’m impressed with the spirit behind OK but I have no confidence in it. It’s extremely difficult for individuals to resist armed aggression by officials in the name (guise) of public safety.

What does the “Katrina bad weather” victim do, being alone, when the paycheck motivated robotic guardsman or cop demands his arms and submission. Even big mouth militia guys will hand them over rather than face humiliating arrest or death alone.

Being alone in this type of crisis is the problem.

The Minute Men had an alarm system suited perfectly for their day. We need one for our day.

OK should sponsor a twice-a-year local face-to- face show-of-power gathering in communities across the country. At an appointed time and date all local OK minded “men” should do a walk through and hand shake at the local mall.

And then network emergency telephone numbers for an assembly of resistance at the site of any gun grabs in process or other such crisis emergency.
Go to these emergencies unarmed so that you can’t be accused of provoking a fire fight but have your arms available should the need warrant it.

If patriots try to stand alone all is lost. But when we stand together in resistance at what ever level of force is needed then chances are very good freedom will survive.

Don’t turn a face-to-face into a BBQ and beer gathering. Keep it serious as a heart attack. Just a hand shake and “I’ll be there; here’s my number; call me first” kind of fellowship. Each man calls four more then goes to the site of crisis.

Any freedom loving lawyers out there need to inform OK what they can do in the field; at the site of conflict–legally–when faced with unlawful armed aggression by government police and soldiers and expect to win in court, should it go to court.

But at some point we will be called upon by our posterity to bleed and die for ours and their freedom and then local or national law and peaceful resolution will end and the rules of war come to the fore. It will take more than brute force and sacrificial death to win. We must stop talking about our outrage and beliefs and start living what we believe and feel and start thinking and come together to prepare for the inevitable in the least provocative way possible but still send a clear unequivocal message of finality–a line carved in the blood bought earth of American freedom.

We stand together as an unstoppable force in crisis like men worthy of the gift of freedom or we go down as detestable and unworthy of freedom as our legacy. We go down as talkers and of no honorable consequence.

The giants that stood against Britain at Concord and Lexington dealt with reality; it’s time we did also.

    Best Regards,

  60. Last night Mr O’Reilly came down on the side of the second amendment when arguing the Chicago handgun ban. His logic was that states have no right to pass laws that are contrary to any of the provisons of the constitutional amendments and I agree. However, the liberals on the Supreme Court will STILL side with Chicago and vote against second amendement freedom. This just goes to show us what kind of left wing scum that we have in the judicial system. Thank God for the 5 supreme court justices that will hopefully support the constitution and support their oath to the constitution.

  61. Asa: a lot of us are supervisors and ranking officers. We’re going to be the ones to tell our subordinates to “stand down” if an unlawful order is given and we’re the ones who are currently getting the troops ready for such an occasion.

  62. You can count on my support. I served in the army
from 1967-1969,and am ready to take back our country. I believe our Constitution was hard thought and should be adhered to, Completely as
originally written. I believe our country needs to get back to true capitalism, which has been
    poisoned with Socialism.

    Doug K

  63. Brutus – You are correct sir. The first time I heard the phrase “new world order” was out of Bush Sr’s mouth. Havn’t had a patriotic POTUS since R.R.

  64. All right, people. enough is enough. I for one am tired of everyone always trying to be polite when discussing the traitors and wanna-be “chosen elite” that make up the party of the enemy. and yes, I did call them what they are, the enemy of my country, my family, my rights, and my future as a citizen rather than a subject. I will state clearly and without trying to lawyer-proof my statement what my line in the sand is: I WILL DIE BEFORE I SURRENDER ONE BOOK, ONE COMPUTER, ONE HAM RADIO,ONE ROUND OF AMMUNITION, OR ONE FIREARM, OF ANY TYPE. BUT BEFORE MY DEATH OCCURS, REST ASSURED THAT I AM 100% WILLING TO KILL TO DEFEND NOT ONLY MYSELF AND MY RIGHTS, BUT SOMETHING BIGGER AND MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT. THAT IS FREEDOM OF THE INDIVIDUAL. I do not wish for any kind of upheaval, but you have to be blind to not see that one is coming.

  65. I realize that i cannot make a statement like that and remain anonymous. so here is my name and a question. Is it traitorous to consider myself a Texan first and an American second? I realized long ago that Texas embodies the characteristics that once made America the best place in the world, that lives on in Texas still. I think when the collapse comes, that Texas will be better than most places in terms of infrastructure, services, and just plain pride. I don’t see that in America as a whole anymore. Am i looking in the wrong places or is there something to what i am saying about lack of American pride?

  66. To borrow from a letter I wrote (27 Feb 2010) on this site under: “Veterans Today Hit Piece On Oath Keeprs”

A few of those citizens (New Orleans) were prior military, one a U.S. Marine, and the other a Navy SEAL. “The young police officer just laughed in my face when he forced me to give up my .45″. Stated the Marine. The former SEAL later ended up having his house broken into by criminals who severely beat him, incapacitating him. Then went on to ransack the now unarmed mans’ home.

“Molon Labe” (Come and get them), seems to have suffered a set back.

  67. Some of you folks should check out todays Texas Fred blog.
