I am hopeful that everyone had a Merry Christmas! My post will not be from someone who has served in our Armed Services but I strongly support each individual who has are presently is serving our nation.
It has come to my attention that certain leaders within the Pentagon have testified before Senate hearings on how to deal with the US population during financial stress. The honest question is who do they think is the real enemy? Are the men and women in uniform today aware of what is really going on as they stand guard on foreign soil? What are their thoughts on coming home to patrol their very own neighborhoods and so forth?
One could say my questions represents the general population that has no military training are law enforcement background. It is very alarming, I love my country but does my country still care about the individual?
Topics such as Operation Garden Plot and Crossing the Rubicon give me cause for concern, am I alone in this thinking?
Blessings to All

Medawar is a little troubled by the process of lighting the fuse first and elevating the piece afterwards!
Using a cable drum as a wad/sabot is inventive, though.
We see an awful lot of extremist groups these days. Medawar is interested in information linking extremists and “mainstream” political parties and pressure groups together. In either direction, really.
Do extremists manipulate mainstream political parties, or does it happen the other way round?
It might be easier to defeat them if we knew, or could look up, a source that indicates what groups link into each other.
After decades of the UK putting up with American presidents who believed that the IRA were freedom fighters, you now appear to have found one who is surrounded by cronies who think the Mau-Mau were heroes.
American soldiers really don’t want to find themselves expected to do the sort of thing the Mau-Mau did.

Ok…that is proably one of the more dagerous “field pieces” I have ever seen. Being an artillery instructor I would not recomend anyone doing that whatsoever! I also shoot black powder muzzle loading cannons and have competed with them at proper ranges and I can assure you that I would never stand in front of the muzzle at any point during loading. Who or what is over the ridge? I assure you that even though some of the bowling balls may partially disintegrate there are pieses that continued to travel for farther distances than you may have considered. Cool as this may be to some there are some serious saftey issues to be considered that I believed were just glossed over.

Holy crap! How many really STOOPID mistakes can you spot in this video? Wow! I’ve built small cannons and done lots of things with black powder but these people are dangerous with a capital D!
Honestly, the one kid stuck his arm down into the barrel and lit the fuse while the guy that presumably built the cannon was standing right in front of it, holding the fuse.
If I see these people on the street, I will cross over to the other side! They were taking so many unnecessary risks. Why?
Crazy stuff.

The fellow that built the cannon has a neat elevation mechanism and trailer. But his design whereby a person has to light the fuse from the muzzle is an accident waiting to happen. I’d hope he would redesign it so that the fuse or touch-hole could be located at the breach end of the cannon. Better yet would be a mechanism to use a primer cap as used on cap and ball revolvers and rifles. That way you know exactly when it will fire. A spread of 4 to 1 minute to wait for it to fire is way too long. What would be done if the fuse went out half way down the cannon? At the re-enactment of Gettysburg a fellow got thrown about 30 yds when he went to set the charge for the cannon and an ember hadn’t gone out. As soon as he rammed the charge into the cannon it fired. Fortunately he was standing to the side while setting the charge or he would have had the rod through his chest. There is a reason that people who fire black powder cannons go to artillery school to be able to do so safely. Hope no one ever gets hurt.

By golly, these folks are a triple threat: smart enough to build a cannon, dumb enough to stick their faces in the barrel while it’s lit, and open-minded enough to consume political propaganda that’s so absurd it’d make Tom Stoppard blush.
