I am proud to join Oath Keepers, and will do my best to uphold my oath to protect the U.S. Constitution and what it stands for
I took an oath quite a few years ago as a sworn police officer, and that oath meant everything to me. I went through the training at the police academy, and did very well. They prepared us for everything, accidents, investigation, firearms, self defense, defensive driving, etc. but they did not prepare me for what I would witness as an officer on patrol duty in a small suburban town.
I was appalled at the treatment “some” law enforcement officers bestowed upon their subjects in the process of “enforcing” the law. I refused to belittle people and treat them like they were something less than human. Don’t get me wrong, not all officers I worked with or was in contact with had this “holier than thou” attitude. It was just enough though for me to realize that my high regard and wanting to be one of those who upheld the law was merely a dream.
I only spent a couple years on that particular force, and have since gone on to other things, one of which was being a wild-land fire fighter, but it was a wonderful experience, being that there were times when we were able to actually AID citizens and the gratitude that they showed us was immeasurable in words. Same holds for being a wild-land firefighter. When we trudged into a community after having cordoned off fire lines to prevent fires from destroying their town, we were welcomed with open arms, given free meals at their tiny restaurants, and treated like royalty. Even though we were soot covered from head to toe, and so tired we could hardly see straight, it certainly rejuvenated our hearts at the wonderful treatment we received from these kind people.
I am proud to join Oath Keepers, and will do my best to uphold my oath to protect the U.S. Constitution and what it stands for.
When a person asked me “will your weapons protect you when the time comes” my reply to that person was…. “What will protect me will be my awareness, LISTENING, WATCHING, and standing VIGILANT as times are changing, THAT is what will protect me from becoming a victim and what will keep me a FREE person.”

Welcome!
You are one of the few I know who were ’stupid’ enough to both go into buildings after armed people AND to go into fire areas. Bless you.
I did 30 years doing the former, but only occasionally had uncontrolled fits of doing the latter. I, too, forfeited high stats (and rapid promotions) in favor of positive outcomes – - case by case decisions. That is EXACTLY what OK is all about.
Your presence makes us stronger, and you are already doing what our oath called for.

The Army grants the officer’s resignation under “other than honorable conditions.”
First Lt. Ehren Watada, the first commissioned military officer to refuse deployment to Iraq because he believed it was an illegal war, has won his three-year legal battle with the Army.
With little fanfare the Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., accepted the resignation of the 1996 Kalani High School graduate, and he will be discharged the first week in October.
Rather than seek a second court-martial against the artillery officer, the Army will grant Watada a discharge under “other than honorable conditions.”
