All of us here at Oath Keepers send out a hearty Happy Birthday! to the United States Marine Corps and all who have ever served as Marines. I served as a U.S. Army Paratrooper, following in my Grandfather’s footsteps (he fought at the Battle of the Bulge). However, my Dad was a Marine, and my Father-in-Law was a Marine (who fought at Iwo Jima). I have long understood the proud tradition and sense of honor that runs deep within the Corps. Just like those who serve in the Army Airborne, people do not become Marines for a job, or for college money. No, they become Marines out of a sense of duty, honor, and a willingness to lay down their lives in the defense of their nation, their homes, and the Bill of Rights.
We Airborne may kid our Marine brothers (and they give back as good as they get) but we all know and understand our shared commitment and duty as the tip of the spear of this nation’s armed forces. And it is not by accident that Marines are featured so prominently in our Oath Keepers video, or on our website, which was from the beginning dedicated to the memory of my Father-in-Law, John Adams, who, at 16, lied about his age to join the Marines on December 10, 1941, three days after Peal Harbor, to fight against Imperial Japan.
