Veterans Day Message From Oath Keepers: Honor Those Who Served, Remember What They Defended, and Resolve to Defend it Still
This They Defended. This We Defend Still.
Today is a day to remember and honor all those who served (or still serve) in defense of this nation. But let’s also honor what they defended – our liberty and our Constitution. Today we will take part in parades and quiet ceremonies honoring the fallen, remembering all the citizen soldiers who came before us. We veterans, young old, will share a beer and speak of our common bonds.
Today, Veterans Day, should be a day of reflection and honor, but also a day of renewed determination and commitment to continue on in our service to our nation, its people, and their liberty. Let us resolve to continue in our sacred obligations.
All of us veterans, however old, whatever our condition, are still bound by that oath we swore before God and our fellows, how ever many years ago, to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That oath does not expire until we do. We still have a purpose - we still have a mission. We remain oath sworn, and duty bound, to defend the Constitution.
Let us resolve to keep that oath and fulfill that duty “to the utmost extent of our power” as the motto of my old unit put it.
Guardians of the Republic, honor your oath! It is not too late to turn the tide and preserve, renew, and restore this Constitutional Republic – but only if we act. I have long said that the veterans of this nation are a sleeping giant. It’s time to wake that giant up and get it moving.
We here at Oath Keepers will do all we can, to the utmost extent of our power, to wake up our fellow veterans and enlist them in the fight to save this Republic. Please join us in that effort, by renewing your oath and by joining us in this effort, all of us pledging – once again – our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.
Stay tuned for details on what we here at Oath Keepers will be doing to keep our oaths, and what you can do to take part. We will be moving very fast over the next few days and weeks, so check back often, here at www.oathkeepers.org
The first thing we will do, starting today, is a drive to put Oath Keepers care packages into the hands of current serving military, both here at home and deployed abroad. Each package will contain education materials on their oath and on the Constitution they swore to defend, and inspiration from respected current serving and veterans, so that they will keep that oath when/if tested. More details will be posed by the end of today.
For the Republic!

Well said. I thank all of those that stand for the Constitution, and do it between my family and the bad guys.
Just wanted to pass on a poem someone shared with me today.
THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
‘Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?’
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
‘No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can’t always be a saint.
I’ve had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I’ve been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn’t mine to keep…
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I’ve wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn’t be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
‘Step forward now, you soldier,
You’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets,
You’ve done your time in Hell.’
