Ready to Protect: Former Bolton Chief Focuses On Constitution

celiaBy Karen Nugent TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF

The annual commemoration of the April 19, 1775, Battle at Lexington Green — with its “Don’t Tread on Me” slogans and tea dumping tax protest — seemed a particularly auspicious time for Celia S. Hyde to join Oath Keepers, a new group dedicated to upholding the U.S. Constitution.

It also helped that Ms. Hyde, a retired Bolton police chief and owner of the Stowaway Inn in Stow, had a room available for Patriot’s Day weekend, when an official from the national organization came to give a talk on Lexington Green.

Now the Massachusetts director for Oath Keepers, and a member of its national board, Ms. Hyde said the goal of the group is simple — to abide by and protect the Constitution.

Although it mostly comprises current and retired police officers, military veterans, and active military personnel — including some high-ranking active duty troops in the Middle East — she said anyone can join.

There are no membership fees, but donations are accepted. Ms. Hyde said Oath Keepers is nonpartisan.

“It’s all about protecting the rights of the people. We don’t want our rights to be stepped on,” she said.

The state chapter, she said, has been busy organizing rallies, lectures and other events. It held a Constitution Day in September at the Statehouse, when members met with state legislators. A current key Oath Keepers state effort, she said, is to oppose a legislative bill dealing with pandemics that would require mass vaccinations against illnesses such as the H1N1 virus.

I went to the article at its source and left a message for readers there, but I must have typed my email addy incorrectly, because that forum’s service never sent the email to verify me. Here is what I had intended to post there….

I had the honor of an enjoyable visit with Ms Hyde this past weekend at the Oath Keepers national conference in Las Vegas.

Celia impressed me as being a conscientious and high-spirited good-natured American who has compiled a lifetime of service to her community in the law enforcement field. She is experienced, intelligent, sensitive, and has a passion for justice. She also is aware of the potential for abusiveness in any governmental structure, hence her devotion to educating all military, veteran, and law enforcement personnel in the true meaning of their oath of service. She is a credit to her community and to America. Thank you, Celia.
    Salute!
    Elias

  9. I’m confident that Celia takes great comfort, knowing NOT that there are great people behind her … but there are great people in OK who are standing BESIDE. We’re thankful for the news article and the publisher there-of and for Celia being willing to be so well represented in that media.

  10. Thank you, Ms Hyde for your commitment and leadership in these serious times. You are an encouragement and a blessing to we civilian patriots.

  11. The Consititution is gone and here we sit—the government now has control of health care–I keep hearing oh we will vote them out in 2010 well it may all be over by then. Americans continue to Sleep

  12. Hooray for Celia Hyde! Thank you for stepping forward and supporting Oath Keepers.

I’m afraid Caryn Hayes (#11) is right. “Vote the rascals out” doesn’t work any more. We don’t have free elections now. That reality was brought home to me during the 2000 presidential election, and again in 2004. The totalitarians were more careful in the 2008 election, but there was still some evidence of vote fraud and corruption at that time, as well. At this point, only MASSIVE civil disobedience will work, but with the “Area Denial” technologies the military can deploy now, and the readiness of some police officers to use deadly force against peaceful protesters, such civil disobedience is becoming very dangerous. That may be what is next: a deadly, violent police action at a peaceful demonstration resulting in the deaths of innocent civilians.

That’s what happened in 1775, in Boston, Massachusetts with the “Boston Massacre,” when a squad of British troops fired on a crowd of shouting, rowdy Bostonians and killed, I think, eight of them. It was one of a string of events that led to the Revolution. Naturally, I hope it doesn’t happen, but too many police have come to have an “us” versus “them” attitude. They have been encouraged to regard all civilians as potential “terrorists.” The recent event at Fort Hood will only make the situation worse.

  13. With arrogance and lies our leaders speak with contempt to the people who have worked to make this country great. They work swiftly to undermine our rights, hoping we will not notice, and most Americans have not. Makes no difference, we know in our hearts and minds what is true. We have traitors who have not been identified. This is evident in the lack of trust in all politicians. In God We Trust, and praise Him for our fellow Oath Keepers.

  14. Anyone thinking of joining this group save your money. When it comes time for them to stand up they stand down.Don’t get their so called color’s wet because the do run.
