READY TO DEFEND: Oath Keepers speak out at inaugural conference

Group appeals to current, former police, military members to uphold Constitution
No amount of controversy will keep Oath Keepers from educating people about what it means to support and defend the Constitution.
That was the message Saturday during the kickoff of the group’s inaugural national conference, a two-day event that comes at a time when Oath Keepers is experiencing a surge in membership and notoriety.
Started earlier this year by Las Vegas resident Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers is a nonprofit organization made up primarily of current and former police and military personnel who renew their oaths to the Constitution.
Rhodes, a former Army paratrooper and Yale University Law School graduate, opened the conference at Texas Station with a warning that Washington politicians cannot be trusted to uphold their oaths to the Constitution.
“That’s why we have a civic duty to keep our oaths,” Rhodes told about a hundred fellow Oath Keepers in the hotel ballroom.
Less pep rally than American history seminar, the first day of the conference focused in great part on the history and structure of the Constitution. Most of the day’s sessions were open to the public.
David Gillie, a board member of Oath Keepers and the group’s national Navy liaison, conducted a public oath ceremony Saturday afternoon.
“This group stands for things that have needed to be said for a long time,” Gillie said in an interview with the Review-Journal. “It’s about fidelity to our oaths.”
In a nearly two-hour speech, Rhodes implored members to fight labels that critics, most notably the Southern Poverty Law Center, have put on the group.
Rhodes, 44, said Oath Keepers isn’t about the political left or political right, but rather about a commitment to honor the Bill of Rights.
Oath Keepers has a “Declaration of Orders We Will Not Obey.” The directives to disobey include unlawfully disarming Americans or forcing them into detention camps, conducting warrantless searches, or imposing martial law.
By honoring the Constitution, Rhodes said, the United States will never become Nazi Germany or again allow abuses like the detention of Americans of Japanese descent during World War II.
The group has close to 2,000 dues-paying members, twice the number it had last week, said Dave Freeman, a board member and the group’s national peace officer liaison.
Oath Keepers has heard from thousands more who have expressed interest in becoming members, Freeman said.
Never have I heard more stirring and inspiring speeches then what Stewart Rhodes and David Gillie delivered this past Saturday, October 24!! If anyone wanted to find out the true nature of Oath Keepers, this was it. And thank God there was local (Review-Journal) and national (CNN) media present to document this historic event. Videos will soon be posted of these two speeches and the rest from this momentous 1st Annual Oath Keeper Conference…and not a moment too soon! Spread the word far and wide and watch the turn of history away from despotism and toward freedom and liberty!!

If I were in charge of the NWO I would create a movement just like this one. It’s sole purpose would be to draw out those individuals whose skills and training could be used to hamper my efforts and eliminate them as a threat BEFORE they can harm my plans.

Number 3 – Dude, your weak efforts to divert focus on this thread are laughable. As Stewart Rhodes has already said, “we should all be on the lists”. Stewart has postulated the scenario that there should rightfully be over three hundred million American names on this berserk Federal government’s infamous lists.
I say: put my name on the list, and count me as standing for America. No “body” gets out of this world alive. How one chooses to live while here reveals the character and merit of one’s soul. Choosing to live honorably is important to some of us. Apparently, by my reading of your shallow commentary, honor means very little to you, and “honor” takes a back seat to your fear. You have revealed your own psychological and spiritual degradation. In so doing, you’ve likened yourself to the Tories of New England who opposed George Washington’s revolution. My prayer is that you face yourself candidly and realize the impotence of living in fear, and resolve in your heart and soul to take the honorable path in this life.

Secondly, let me say that who are the cowards here, those who post anon a MOUSELY, for fear of rebuttal or retribution… are you just trying to stir the hornet’s nest, because believe me you have. I honestly don’t understand how someone can think that a grassroots group is a front for “rounding up the dissidents”. Who needs front groups to build a list of dissidents for roundup, as it was in the days of Mao Zedong? Today’s NSA has data-mined the Internet for a long time, and posting anonymously doesn’t matter because they can track your IP address in realtime. The databases built by our intelligence community from the online records and personal information of Americans give them a near-godlike ability to profile, track, analyze, and scrutinize every American. It makes the fear of being “on a list” a moot point. It’s not a question of whether you’ve been vocal in expressing your opinion, but what your viewing habits online are. If you’ve visited certain kinds of websites over the last few years, the spooks have a record of it, and have an analysis of your web habits that profile your religious, political, social & other values.
So why worry about it??

@ William Flatt: The NSA cannot control the actions of a particular group of patriots simply by knowing their online habits…a control operative would be needed for that. A skilled controller, once established, can dictate the activities that the group engages in, or, more importantly, the activities that the group will not engage in.
If I were the controller of Oath Keepers I could easily string them along until it’s too late to take any kind of effective action against the target that I’m protecting. I would only have to maintain a peaceful posture for the group, and keep pushing that agenda, thereby neutralizing a fairly large number of patriots from taking any kind of correct (sometimes violent measures are necessary) action. Then, when I’ve received my orders, I would hold an emergency summit meeting of all the leadership in order to get them all in the same location for orderly arrest. Can’t do any of that through data mining!
BTW, William, it is possible to disguise ones IP address…even from the NSA. The US government is not infallible and it doesn’t have God-like abilities. The US government gets duped all the time!

Thankful for this organization, it means there are more like me. Not a pessimist, I still think the die is cast; there is hardly a difference between one political party and the other, too many of our leaders see a NWO as the next natural step; politicians see us as a tax base while corporations see us as consumers…no on sees us as God created individuals…we are simply nondescript functionaries in the flow of commerce. That said, it is incumbent on me to give all for my sons and daughter, my sons to give all for my grandchildren, and each of us to willingly die standing in front of the Constitution rather live by treading upon it.
Oath Keepers is certainly not the first Patriot group to form, nor will it be the last. But the significance of this group is huge, mostly because the despots have big plans for police and military. REACH AND TEACH FOLKS !!! And personally, I would be embarrassed if my enemy saw me as “no threat at all”. Let’s show ‘em who they are really dealing with. GOD BLESS all the OK and keep them safe, when the time comes patriotic Americans will swarm like bees to keep their freedom.

I took the Oath many years ago and it rings in my ears now more than ever. We are being assulted on every front, from what they teach(or don’t teach) in schools, the media, Congress, and even from our uninformed loved ones. For too long, WE as a Nation, have stood by and let others walk on the Constitution. It is time for us to stand up and be counted. Others have spoken about lists and I am sure I am on a few. It doesn’t bother me and I see it as a badge of honor. George Washington, Sam Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin were all on lists too.

So, I’d like to know what others think of this idea: What if we start our own list … a PUBLIC list that we sign & place contact info, and start calling each other to say hello. Buddy system like we used to do in Girl Scouts.
Patriot list of those who believe in the US Constitution, Bill of Rights, upholding the oath (plus Oathkeeper’s promises), protecting America from all enemies foreign or domestic. And contact info (email, cellphone, etc). And/or other info you’d want to add, not commentary or opinions, just associations or locale, maybe.
Just an idea and thought I’d throw it out there.
ALSO, ON THE HEALTH CARE BILL: It’s my opinion that this bill gives “The Secretary” the authority & responsibility to determine ALL health care & health insurance standards – including the top standard of defining “HIGH QUALITY CARE”.
I haven’t read the entire bill, but I’ve seen enough of it to say with strong certainty that this transfers all power over everything “health-care” to the fed gov & the new bureau’s and directorates and committees being formed.
Now, states license doctors, nurses, massage therapy, physical therapy, chiro, homeopathic, hospitals, med schools, other health training schools, certifications, testing, on & on. All (mostly) on STATE level. This health care bill (pelosi version, 1,990 pages) changes the jurisdiction from state to federal.
Consider the implications of just those 2 issues presented above. 1. Having “The Secretary” not doctor(s) in your state, decide what “high quality health care” means; and 2. Giving jurisdiction over all things “health” to DC (or the Hague? Or the U.N. in NY?) we don’t know yet; many issues, even if this monstrous bill is passed, many issues still have to be outlined & detailed, but the Wise Ones will do that later, we’re probably not to worry our little heads about it now.
Because, the Annointed One will choose the Appointed One, aka “The Secretary” who will then appoint various & numerous committees to make all these dangling decisions. Even for as long as this bill is, there are many holes that still need to be plugged. Luckily, various & numerous new bureaucrats will be hired and standing at the ready to fill in the blanks.
Please speak loud & strong against this health care monstrosity. And, the bill was only posted recently … those Reps will not have had time to read & understand the bill, even if they did nothing but read & study it since it came out. NO POSSIBLE WAY.

Why did I not see a copy of the constitution front and center in big bold letters on the first page of this website? There are a great number of people (as demonstrated by #3 and #7) Who are completely ignorant of what it is.I try to inform

I’ve read the threads, and still believe that our nation is heading in a bad direction. The Health Care Bill is nothing more than an end-run around the very document we swore an oath to uphold.
Like millions of others in protest, I’ve called, written letters and emailed my govt. My words have fallen on deaf ears, our representatives no longer listen to those who sent them to DC to do what ‘We the People’ want done.
In great numbers the Tea Party went to DC, the 9-12ers’ went to DC, still our representatives refuse to listen. Instead the House & the Senate seem to be moving closely towards treasonous actions.
Would govt listen if ‘WE’ the veterans marched on DC? I’m a poor man, no income for the past two years, however I’ll be in DC even if I should have to walk there, if my fellow Brothers decide to march on DC.
We’re watching as our nation is being ‘transformed’ into some thing that was not given to us by our ancestors and I think also of those relations who died on foreign soil, when do we put our Oath into action?
I was given a Republic nation to protect, I can’t give my grandchildren a socialist nation.

There used to be alot of talk about “Red List or Blue List” peoples and groups during the Clinton Administration regarding people who opposed far left policies in our federal government. I’ll say again as I said back then. Then please put me on that list. I believe our founding fathers had first hand knowledge regarding despotism and tyrants and we do not. I believe the Constitution is second only to the Bible as the most profound documents ever written. I still would like to get T-shirts, hats and bumper stickers that say “RED LIST AND PROUD”. I’m good with that.
I love you guys, and appreciate all that your do and have done for this country. Keep up the good work. God knows we need more like you that will stand up for what is right in the greatest nation on earth.

MediaCurves.com conducted a study among 300 viewers of a news clip featuring the Oath Keepers organization. Results found that majority of viewers (53%) felt that armed militia groups should be outlawed in the United States. The percentage of viewers that support the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, which protects the right to keep and bear arms, declined from 80% to 73% after viewing the video. In addition, more than one-third of the viewers (37%) reported that the existence of the Oath Keepers organization causes them to feel less safe.

Well, the way i see it is, if they can have a list of us and decide who is to live and who is to die, then i say…lets make our own list starting now of all the ones that have sold us out and committed treason by pissing on our constitution. God it angers me to know they sit up there and moch the very morals and fiber thats made this country what it is. I know that the whole world is watching us (the American People)to see what we will do when the day comes and the Government here decides to start pushing their New World Order in full force. Wow, I am blown away by all the positive feedback to my comments at #16 & #17. What can I say?? I must respond to a few of the comments posted, in order:
#20(”anonymous smith”): I did not say anything along the lines of “The NSA cannot control the actions of a particular group of patriots simply by knowing their online habits”… so I am guessing that either you’re putting words in my mouth or you read into my comment something other than what I was saying. (I’ll assume the latter.) All I am asserting is that there is no need to infiltrate an online community to ’round up dissidents’ as another writer inferred. Your comments illustrate that point for me, thanks. I am asserting, though, that the NSA has the technical capability to surveil the activity of millions of Americans in realtime, daily, because thanks to modern computing capability the process is fully automated now. You assume their capability is less, but unless if you either have REALLY good intel or have worked WITHIN the deepest recesses of the NSA, it is reasonable to assume that in the 21st Century, our national SIGINT capability is at this “total awareness” level. In fact I know it is, even though that capability is ‘above top secret’ (SCI).
It makes no difference!! Even if the government were capable of monitoring every living human being’s realtime activity simultaneously, it would be easy to monkeywrench the threat matrix if a significant minority were to simply engage in routine activity that normalizes “high threat” activity. For example, you can’t suppress the real dissidents if everyone talks like one. You cannot suppress insurgent activity if everyone supports it, and contributes to it. This is the principle that deterred a Japanese attack on the US mainland in 1941, because the Japs knew “there would be an armed American behind every blade of grass”.
Active resistance to tyranny does not have to involve guns & bombs, but active resistance wears down would-be tyrants and dulls the senses of ‘Big Brother’. How can ‘Big Brother’ tell the difference between a million citizens acting in a passive-aggressive manner versus the actual work of freedom-fighters?

Next reply to Lynn @ #30: I believe that with all the groups that are out there, a ‘master list’ consisting of the most dedicated patriots from every group out there is an excellent idea, even if I doubt that many will avail themselves of the concept. BUT… if you’re really enamored with the idea, it’s worth pointing out that even before there was a USA, there was and remains a master list of the hardcore patriots: it’s called the unorganized militia. I will not rant about the 2nd Am., RKBA or specific militia groups. Just closing the circle of the notion. Everyone who is not in the active military or the reserves (Gov’t.-organized, select militia) is part of the unorganized variety, and IMHO everyone in the latter category who is a real patriot ought to be part of an ‘unorganized’, well-regulated (self-disciplined) citizen militia. And- there should be such an organization in every county of every state. IMHO. Every American should be an Oath Keeper!

More reasons we as Americans need to set aside our differences and band together for the greater good, Freedom.
The Constitution that has protected our rights and liberties for more than 200 years is now in greater danger of being overthrown than at any time in our history. Though generations of patriotic citizens have fought and died to defend it against enemies foreign and domestic, it is now that the Cold War is over and we no longer face the threat of thermonuclear Armageddon that it is in the greatest peril. If action is not soon taken to defend it against its enemies, all those lives may have been sacrificed in vain.
So who are the enemies that now threaten what we have so long defended? Drug lords? Terrorists? Hungry hordes of foreigners? Economic or ecological collapse? Nuclear proliferation? Space aliens?
No, some of these things may pose serious challenges, but none of them are as deadly as a cancer of fascism that is grasping for power within the very institutions that we founded to keep us free. We fought World War II against countries that had allowed themselves to be taken over by fascism, and we thought that we had defeated fascism when we won that war. But we didn’t. We have comforted ourselves with the delusion that our democratic traditions are too strong to allow such a thing to happen here, that even in the deepest economic crisis we would remain true to the principles on which this country was founded.

When I enlisted in The United States Marine Corps. I took an oath to uphold The Constitution of The United States of America. I served with the 22nd MAU which together with the 24th, learned a hard lesson on October 23 1983 when a radical Islamic madman drove a truck load of explosives into our barracks, blowing it up and killing over 240 Marines and Sailors. In those days we could see the beginnings of what our Military is today… a political tool for whatever politician was in the White House. Having said that bring us to today…nothing has changed other than the world is even more dangerous but in the last two or three years the danger is largely right here at home. Our elected officials do not have the country and the protection of our way of life and our Constitution at heart. What they have is their own greed and lust for more power and whatever it takes for them to stay in office and continue their career of grabbing power and money. They have completely forgotton taking the Oath. When I took my Oath, I sincerely believed in it’s words and intents and was prepared to honor that Oath with my life. In fact, back in the day especially in time of war, if a member of the military shirked his duty to abide by his Oath, it could mean a Courts Martial, Imprisonment and possibly even Execution. Our politicians who take this Oath, have no such potential results if they fail that Oath. There is a double standard here which should not be.
I took my Oath seriously and two days after 9/11, I tried to re enlist in the Marine Corps but was told I was too old at 41. I felt I had something to offer, maybe not on the battlefront but possibly in training young men and preparing them to do the job at hand.
Now, I have an opportunity to join something even bigger, the movement to take back our country from those who would sell it to whoever the highest bidder was ( currently China ). Our politicians have in effect committed Treason both here and abroad, selling the American soul for the almighty dollar and the socialist practices of the countries we left over 200 years ago in the name of Freedom. If joining this group puts me on some sort of government list for some future potential round up… let em come find me. I will defend my family and my brothers who have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States…they might get me in the end but…but it wouldnt be without cost.

ANd, if you want a truly great read for 2010, then I recommend that new book just out about a small town in America that stands up to federal tyranny & ends up starting the 2nd American Revolution. It’s a great read for what’s coming for all of us.
Maybe, history is now calling on all of us to fulfill our destiny & leave our legacy.
