Colleague Kurt Hofmann, the St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner also asked “How is a vow to uphold the Constitution a ‘threat’?” Matthews and his special gang-up guest, Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law center did their best to make it appear that it is.
Anyone at all familiar with MSNBC should not be surprised.
They started with a classic trick–focusing in on points they thought they could exploit to create a negative impression, in this case, only four of the 10 orders Oath Keepers will not obey, presented with no context, of course. And Matthews used his trademark bullying style in an attempt to dismiss Stewart’s direct response to questioning.
His very first question, “Do you guys have the current firepower to stand up to the federal government?” is what’s known as a “lie.” The point of Oath Keepers is to stand down, and Matthews knows it.
Matthews then makes a big deal about Oath Keepers being “potentially armed.” We’re talking current and retired police and military, so one would expect that to be so in many cases, but again, he’s ignoring Stewart’s answer and trying to paint the group as violence initiators.
Notice when Stewart brings up My Lai, Matthews doesn’t want to listen because it’s in the past. Yet Matthews feels free to bring up whether or not Oath Keepers would have stood down in the Civil War during the discussion on state sovereignty–not so subtly equating people who wish to restore Constitutional principles of federalism with antebellum Southern slave owners.

In my opinion, Oath Keepers will win regardless of what the News Mafia does. In fact, in my opinion if the majority of the Public refuses to give up their Guns unconstitutionally no matter what, or if the majority of the Public even refuses to pay taxes, then here’s what I predict will happen if the Govt persists and why:
1. The Government collapses.
2. The reason for 1 is that no major Dictator in history has ever had the Manpower, not to mention trusting the loyalty of the Manpower that they had, to arrest or murder half or more of their population – not Hitler, not Stalin, not Mao, not Putin, etc. They had to be content to arrest and murder relatively few (the “Initial Troublemakers” for example) and then SCARE the rest.
3. Of course, nobody wants to be one of the initial few arrested. But as long as for example Oath Keepers message continues to spread, and it is, then the majority of the Public will get the message, and the Dictators will either withdraw or collapse. It’s good enough if the message spreads by word of mouth, by phone, by fax, by letter, by email, or whatever.

If you noticed Matthews did not give Stewart time to completely answer any of his questions. This man is so in the tank with the left that it is sickening. Just remember that when, God forbid, that it comes to pushing back the left will stand around and wonder why we are upset. The do want to take care of us from birth to death. Did anyone else find it odd that Chris Matthews asked “What foreign troops do you expect to land on American soil” and then a minute later he mentions “black helicopters from the UN”??? I found that very foretelling.
I could hardly believe Stewart was treated like such sub-human trash. Chris Matthews looks like one of those big-shots that’s high and mighty on a skype session but cowardly when face to face with a man of character and strength.
And Potok looks like a wimpy sell-out version of George Lucas. I’m soooo scared of those “domestic extremist” veterans who are keeping their oath. God save us all!

In reply to Mike, the Spirit of the Constitution is opposed to warrantless searches and invading and subjugating states that assert their sovereignty. The 1st 4 Presidents of the USA (Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison) would have rejected the Civil War, would have rejected Eisenhower using troops to enforce Brown vs. the Board (in fact, Eisenhower frequently was mis-advised by his State Department and others, as with his vendetta against Senator Joe McCarthy), etc.
“Probable Cause” should be decided by a warrant legally, not by Joe Blow’s intuition.

Giving Chris Matthews the credit of being a fool and a moron would be a insult to fools and morons.
There were three soldiers that stood up against the 26 that took part in the My Lai Massacre. I’d like to locate those three and invite them into Oath Keepers. They stood down when given illegal and unconscionable orders. They held true to their oath. They are examples of the spirit of what Oath Keepers is.
Let us hope that the spirit, integrity, and morality of those three fine soldiers is what swells within the ranks of our military before the iron fist of tyranny and fascism falls within our own blessed republic.

The objection that Potok et al have to Oath Keepers reminds me of the illogical sneering that journalist had about Promise Keepers. Let’s see: a group of guys, all strangers, assemble to publicly proclaim renewed loyalty to their wives and children. You’d think that secular journalists wouldn’t care that it’s a Christian org, as the Promise Keepers goal is so unassailably moral, beneficial, and harmless.
Same with Oath Keepers. The way to stick Potok and his ilk in a corner is to ask them if US Army troops should have refused to intern Japanese-Americans. One can’t blast the internment as unlawful/immoral and yet support the troops’ actions.
You know that it is a small percentage right now and hopefully growing that will be on the side of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. Despite what “some” of the media try to do to instill the ideas that OK is a “radical, violent group of gun toting fanatics” I think that particularly with Matthews’ showing of his ignorance, it will only serve to inspire curiousity in people who will in turn visit the website, where they can be better informed as to what Oath Keepers is all about. Did anyone notice Matthews excluded the MAIN reasons Oathkeepers exists? I think he’s already proven himself to be a media whore for Obama… he said it was his “job” to make sure this Administration succeeds. Why are we even debating this? Chris Matthews just exposed himself for what he is and what he believes while commenting on the President’s address to the troops at West Point. He referred to the venue as “enemy territory!” Can you believe it? He considers the military, the people that protect him and his rights, the people who fight and die for his right to free speech and free living as “enemies”. It makes it extremely clear that our imaginations are not running wild, that we are not right wing nuts that are overreacting, and our suspicions have been confirmed ten-fold. Can you imagine an American citizen that worked for a past President, that has prospered in our free, democratic, and Capitalist society calling the military “the enemy”? Wow! From this point forward, Chris Matthews or his ilk will never be able to undermine this organization. He just validated why we exist in the first place.
