The Constitution And Why It Is Important To Me
Why are we the greatest republic ever created on the face of the earth? The answer for this question is very simple, our founding fathers made it simple. Think about that for a little bit. For now, I will tell you why I am willing to fight for that concept.
I like most of my generation had very liberal views as a young man. I think for the most part, most of us do at young ages. Fortunate for me that changed early in my
life. On January 19, 1983, I raised my right hand and swore an oath to defend and uphold a very old piece of paper as far as I was concerned at the time. Of course I was only 19 years old and didn’t feel the impact of that yet. I enlisted in the Army National Guard. To answer why, I lived in a small community at the time and
many of the people my age group seem to be there and I thought it was a cool thing to do.
A couple of months later, I was on my way to Ft. Dix NJ to begin my basic training and introduction to military life. That 8 week experience changed me forever. I
began to be reminded things I learned in history but dismissed them as irrelevant to our present and future. I soon started wondering what I didn’t pay attention to
in school that I should have. So I started to do more reading and it confused me. Many different scholastic texts had contradicting points of our history. I decided
to start reading authors who lived in the period I was focusing on and had witnessing accounts. I was amazed to find more similarities in their writings and came to the conclusion that was the most accurate way to learn the factual history. I was truly amazed what I learned not only of ours but the world’s history and our
impact on the last 230 plus years of it.
I had not long before, raised my right hand and swore to God to uphold and defend a piece of paper I thought was old and irrelevant. I immediately started to read it.
I was amazed how easy it was to read and understand. It is true I read it in school but I didn’t really read it if you know what I mean. Based on the time and all the
legalese of government, I was kind of amazed how easy it was to understand. I started reading other documents and other writings of the late 1700’s and was amazed how simple they formed our structure of government and why. They wanted it that way to keep it limited. Their goal was to make it as hard as possible for the necessary evil known as government to grow into the monster our founding fathers feared and hated. I started taking my oath and the job that came with it very seriously.
On March 12, 1986 circumstances arrived to allow me to enlist active in the United States Air Force. I served very proudly until August 9, 2004 based on the
foundation of my oath and the values it instilled on me. It is ironic that over the period of my life, we as a country have slowly failed our founding fathers’ dream.
We have allowed many changes and mutations based on case law and progressiveness slowly chip away at that foundation. Our United States Constitution is our
foundation. We have to stop and even reverse that damage.
I am not saying we can’t make laws to repair mistakes. What I am saying is we got away from the basic foundation of the Constitution. We distorted it to appease
certain groups. That in itself is a fundamental violation of our constitution. As stated earlier, our founding fathers made it simple for all the people. It is
stated nowhere in the constitution that it’s for one group or another. It doesn’t grant any entitlements to anyone. It is the foundation to structure a government
for the people, by the people and discriminates against no one. We with our greed and intellect changed it and we let it get dangerously out of hand. In doing so we
failed and created an aristocracy to rule us. This is exactly what our founding fathers feared.
If you read writings of the period, it is very evident we failed them. We have to wipe the slate clean and start again. What I mean by this is most of our current
elected officials are members of that class. We need to get rid of our aristocracy. To do that, we have to elect new candidates that are our peers. We had a saying as enlisted members about chinks in our chain of command, what do you get when you send an idiot to collage, an educated idiot. It is the same with our intellectuals. Just because someone went to a bunch of lectures in college, that doesn’t mean they are smarter than anyone else. Now days, I wonder if it is the opposite. I had conversations with people who were more educated and most have no clue of the situations of the world and most of their views or the world is completely wrong. I base my knowledge on firsthand accounts of many areas of the world.
These people have a grasp on our government and our mega business industry. Remember, we grossly outnumber these people and yet they rule over us. We must
fight as one united front and take down these “intellectuals” to restore our Republic which was paid for in the blood of millions on domestic and foreign soil. As Benjamin Franklin said, “Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God.” We have a duty to ourselves, families, friends, and future generations to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. That is what I swore to do and I will gladly give my life for it.

I, too, was amazed when I watched a documentary on what happened at Ft. Sumpter in the beginning of the Civil War and started to research it. That’s when I discovered, reading the jounal entries of men who were there, that what I was taught in school wasn’t what happened at all. Being from the South, I realized that the old sayings “It’s the winners who write history” was true, and I had been taught the North’s version of those events.
I am not saying this as an inflammatory statement but to reaffirm what you said. If you want to know what really happened in a given time and event, read the daily lives of those who were viewing it first hand. Thank you for your service and your observations. A hearty welcome to OK’s.

Don,
Thank you for pointing the way for me to gain an understanding of what our founding fathers intended for this amazing country. Like you, I never really paid attention or was able to absorb the information in history and civics class and I have just begun at this late stage to remedy the situation and re-educate myself.
I also agree with you that the nation’s adherence to the Constitution has been on a downward spiral since the last Great Depression. And I also agree that the current elites in Congress need to be sent home. Perhaps even a new amendment to limit the amount of time served in Congress, but we must also be sure to clean house when it comes to Congressional Aides as well. In reality, the Aides are often the folks that “get things done and make the deals”
In closing, Thank You for your service to the USA and for your wonderful testimonial!
