Guard troops may be needed in troubled Ala. county

Yet another call for the National Guard to “step in” and do the job of policing a town, this time because of a supposed budget “crisis.” This is not good. I will post more about why this is not good as soon as time permits.” Stewart Rhodes
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The sheriff in Alabama’s most populous county may call for the National Guard to help maintain order, a spokesman said Tuesday, after a judge cleared the way for cuts in the sheriff’s budget and hopes dimmed for a quick end to a budget crisis.
Circuit Judge Joseph L. Boohaker ruled that leaders in Jefferson County — now trying to head off a municipal bankruptcy filing of historic proportions — could go ahead with plans to slash $4.1 million from the budget of Sheriff Mike Hale, who had filed a lawsuit that temporarily blocked spending cuts for his office.
About 1,000 county workers already are on unpaid leave because courts threw out a key county tax, and Hale has warned that reductions to his budget would mean fewer patrols by deputies and decreased courthouse security.
A spokesman for Hale, Randy Christian, said the sheriff told Gov. Bob Riley after the ruling that state assistance may be needed to perform basic law enforcement tasks once the department’s current funding is exhausted in early September.
“We will certainly be looking at calling in the National Guard,” said Christian.

Earlier this year, here in Tennessee, there was a fair amount of upset citizens when active military was working with local LEO’s at checkpoints. Citizens called the Governor’s office and expressed their concerns. The Gov ordered the exercises to end, but the military refused, stating that they were under orders from FEMA. So much for State rights!

this is absolutely horrible, guess our tin foil hats once again just turned out to be true and faithful patriots speaking the truth,..even more of a reason to be able to inspire and lead others to Oathkeepers..
LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!!!!

I live in Jefferson County and it’s all a political ploy, because our county legislators are for the most part no better than the bunch they just rounded up in NJ. In the past few years our former governor, numerous county commissioners have been convicted and are now in prison. The esteemed mayor of Birmingham is facing a 121 count indictment in Federal court in a couple of months. The county has issued over 55,000 concealed carry permits, and Alabama is an open carry state. NOt relying on the deputies and NG would probably make things actually better. Remember an armed society is a polite society.

I live in TN and was in Bolivar and Whiteville when the police and military set up their checkpoint. It was absolutely insane. I drove through minutes before they set it up and I personally counted 24 different vehicles (FEMA, Homeland Security, Highway Patrol, County, and city). The governor lied to everyone, he SAID he told them no but I saw who was present. Without task force orders that came from his office, highway patrol would not have participated. Those in command KNEW what they were doing and used the age old, “I’m just following orders…”

Rand,
thank you so much for the follow up, I chair a group in Missouri fighting for constitutional republic and like to verify before passing things on. This is an outrage. My husband and two of our sons are also oath keepers. God bless and keep up the good work.

If Oathkeepers was established and well organized in a county, and the Sheriff knew he could count on them, there would be no need to even consider calling in the “National Guard” or the military. This is our potential, not for law enforcement (writing tickets, drug busts, and all the things that have to do with exercise of power and collecting revenue), but for keeping the peace. We can search for lost children, we can patrol neighborhoods to make sure there is no looting or fighting, we can help maintain order in an emergency or help clear debris in a flood. We don’t need the military or FEMA or anyone else to help us locally, if we are organized to do the job.

Why don’t you sugest to Gov. Bob Riley that you inact the state Guard, if you have one. and if you don’t find out how to get one started. Most state constitutions have a prevition for this. There are more likely quite a few people there that will join and help. If they are put under your comand you can see that most people pitch in to help when needed. It’s their town let them help keep it safe not the military full of brain washed young people. My daughter is in the military and says that she is to follow orders first not the constitution first.

I’m originally from Alabama and have heard much on this story…I’m also an Oath keeper and currently live in Missouri, I would love to see a group of oath Keepers actually petition their local or state government to make a few changes. Cindy McGee please contact me about your group in Missouri at Douglas_fee@yahoo.com
