Retired Marine Appreciates Those Who Become Oath Keepers

Marine_corps_flag

I first took the Oath in 1971, and then again in 1975 when I was
commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. I flew attack
helicopters on active duty, and was active reserve until I retired. I became an
attorney in 1986, but, believe it or not, the first time I actually read and studied
the Constitution I was sworn to protect and defend was probably 1998. I have
thought often of the dismemberment of that Constitution I swore to protect at the
hands of those who swore the same oath.

I appreciate how many active duty military and law enforcement are becoming
oath-keepers. By the nature of their present commitment, the orders that we will
not obey have very personal ramifications to them. Likewise, the fact that our
additional oath is a negative, in other words something we will not do has meaning
for someone who very likely will be ordered to do one of those things.

But what about those of us who are no longer in active service? We are no longer in
a position to be ordered to do something that is wrong, Constitutionally. I want to
do more than just spread the word about this “organization.” I want to organize
locally and meet with others who have signed up. The very Constitution we defend
has the means in it to provide “homeland security” from all enemies, foreign and
domestic. And the Constitutional way to implement it is local organizations.

What better group of individuals to protect the Constitution on the home front than
those of us who have already served? What better pool of expertise? If we claim to
be oath-keepers, we better be well versed in the document we have sworn to protect.
It was not written for lawyers and experts. It was written for us.

I’m about fifty miles out of St. Louis. Anyone interested in getting together, let
me know.

You make some excellent points, Sir, if you click on the state groups you can join The group in your state. In the state of New York. I am meeting with local peace officers, and I’m getting the impression that a lot of them are going to sign up with our group here. But anyways, we are already talking about having meetings and possibly chapters or different groups from different parts of the state. Example, the New York City area and Central New York, and possibly western New York.

Thank you for your service and insight. What you desire is exactly what we at Oath Keepers are doing. Click on the State groups icon and go from there. Make contact with other members from your state and encourage them to spread the message. We are not shrinking in size. We continue to grow EVERYDAY.

Once again, thank you for your continued service and devotion to the values of this country.

Your story has a great point that many fail to realize. The Oath to the Constitution has come to be seen as just a series of words to be mouthed in order to ‘get the job’. The question that few ask themselves is, “How can I support and defend a document, and the ideas contained therein, unless I read and study the document?” The obvious answer is that it is impossible, but most never ask the question.

Thank you for your service, but thank you MORE for asking the question and taking steps to answer it.

You do yourself, country and the Corps proudly indeed!

You are certainly well qualified to speak, if you haven’t, perhaps you should consider it.

Thank you for your service sir. Have you joined the Missouri State Group? I am in that group and I am about 50 miles out of St. Louis also. Boots on the ground is all that will get this done so we all need to be willing to meet where and when we can.
