Local sheriffs are last defense, former lawman Mack says

POLSON – From his patrol car, Richard Mack watched the old Datsun station wagon drive right through the stop sign in Provo, Utah.
The car was filled with rambunctious youngsters and one harried mother who, when she saw what she had done, and the police car parked nearby, threw her arms in the air in frustration and pulled over before Mack could even hit his lights and siren.
“It was a crappy old car, not worth $400,” Mack told about 50 people at the VFW post in Polson on Monday. “The kids were all fighting and crying, the woman didn’t say a word, just handed me her license and registration and stared straight ahead.”
Mack said he had always been a by-the-book cop.
“When I was back in patrol it was all about bringing in the money, bringing in the numbers,” he said. “If you wrote 35 tickets a day you were a good cop.”
As he filled out his latest ticket, Mack said he looked at this woman and imagined she had probably been thinking her day couldn’t get any worse – until he’d been parked where he was, and it did.
“Then I looked at myself,” Mack said. “I asked myself, ‘Am I doing anything to help this family? Am I making this town a better place to live? Am I making it safer? Am I bringing honor to my badge?’ ”
What a true peace officer would do, Mack decided, was to suggest the woman swing by a nearby school playground and let the kids burn some energy while she regained her focus.
He tore up the ticket. The next day he went to the city clerk and asked to see the oath of office he had taken.
He’d sworn, he discovered, to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. And he’d sworn that he’d do so against enemies both foreign and domestic.
We know who America’s foreign enemies are, Mack told the crowd.
The domestic enemy he fights today is a federal government he says is bent on taking away people’s rights and freedoms.
And who can fight the massive federal government?
Your local sheriff, he said.
Mack – a former two-term sheriff in Graham County, Ariz., who along with former Ravalli County Sheriff Jay Printz, successfully sued the federal government when the Clinton administration demanded county sheriffs enforce provisions of the Brady Bill gun control law – said his movement seeks to target 1,000 sheriff races across the U.S. in 2010.
“We can have our country back,” Mack said, “but if you think the answer is in Washington, D.C., I’ve got beachfront in Oklahoma for you.”
All law enforcement officers, from the FBI down to the local meter maid, derive their powers from the people, Mack said, but the only law enforcement officers in the land who answer directly to the people are county sheriffs.
His book, “The County Sheriff, America’s Last Hope” spells out why he believes sheriffs are the last line of defense for the constitutional rights of U.S. citizens.
While many of Mack’s backers are gun owners who believe the country is taking away their Second Amendment rights, Mack said true “constitutional” sheriffs will protect the rights and freedoms of all Americans on any front.
“What would a constitutional sheriff have done in 1959?” Mack asked the crowd.
When the call came in to the Montgomery County, Ala., sheriff’s office that a black woman was refusing to move to the back of the bus – as required by law – the sheriff would have arrived on the scene and talked to Rosa Parks.
“Ma’am, what’s the problem,” a constitutional sheriff would have asked her, Mack said. Told she had taken an empty seat and just wanted to be left alone, the constitutional sheriff would have sat down next to her, ridden with her to her stop – and, once off, for good measure taken her into a whites-only restaurant so she could buy sandwiches for her and her husband.
He’d have then escorted her home, Mack said – asked if her husband was armed and could defend his family if anyone upset by what had happened came around and threatened them – and ordered extra patrols of the house.
“Remember, segregation wasn’t a tradition, it was the law of the land,” Mack said. “Rosa Parks taught us what you do with stupid laws.”
Mack said the Constitution gives the federal government the authority to police exactly four areas: treason, piracy, treaty violations and counterfeiting.
“The other 5,000 they’ve stolen and usurped from state and local authorities,” he said. “The very people who have promised us they will protect and defend the Constitution are the ones who are destroying it.”
In his 49-page book, Mack quotes Founding Fathers who warned that a centralized power in government would lead to one, in Thomas Jefferson’s words, “as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated.”
Mack said the day he pulled over the car filled with fighting children and the exasperated mother launched him in a new direction – and the day he filed his lawsuit over the Brady Bill gave him a national platform for what he calls a “revolution.”
“I decided that day (he pulled the woman over) I was nothing but a liar and a hypocrite,” he said. It almost drove him from law enforcement, he added, “until I realized I don’t have to quit my job, I just have to quit being a liar and a hypocrite.”
He remained in law enforcement for many more years, and believes all those who take an oath just like the ones he did in Utah and Arizona can make a difference.
“Sheriff,” he writes in his book, “you are the sworn protector. You cannot shrink from that duty merely because the violator comes to town with a three-piece suit and a fancy attache case.”

We need to find more counties who’ll hire “laymen” as sheriff’s deputies … people who are versed in the constitution and willing to learn more about it and to defend it. We need to see more counties hiring people who’ll be looking out for the “average joe” in their county, just like Sheriff Mack learned to do. We need to get involved in our “public” ( socialist ? ) schools, to work toward leading them back to the constitution and to teaching the children, from the first graders all the way thru to 12th, about the constitution and not only about our “rights” but our responsibilities. TY Sheriff Mack for your example, for your work and for your sacrifice(s) !!!
We need allot more like Sheriff Mack. He is a true law enforcement officer. He’s not just another ticket writer. He cares more for the citizens than the revenue he can generate.

They have weekends here called “Taking Back Our Highways” when they increase the amount of officers on the roads. Afterward, they brag about how many tickets were handed out. We’ve done the math and realized that they rake in hundreds of thousands of dollars for the few thousand that they pay the law enforcement on duty. All it does is increase their coffers but our city isn’t any safer. Just how stupid do they think we are? We know what the point of all that is.

I very much enjoyed meeting you at the Three Forks meeting this past week in Montana. You have all the right stuff. The people you are associated with are top notch American patriots!
I brought Richard Mack to Montana with Law and Order and Peace and Safety in our communities in mind. Unfortunately I am being attacked by the radical leftists in Montana and even our local sheriff and county commissioner for doing so. Well too bad for them. The truth is finally coming out about the Rule of Law and who really has the power in this Constitutional Republic.
Truth always goes through three steps. First it’s ridiculed and dissbelieved, then it’s violently opposed, then it’s accepted for what it is. We are now getting done with the violently opposed stage in Montana, and the Radical leftists only have their tired old buzzwords left and nothing is new under the sun.

We must awaken Sheriffs nationwide to the power they have resulting from the Mack/Prinze Supreme court decision. When the Feds and the State Government moves to try to force vaccines on us, the Sheriff can throw them out of his county. When the Feds move to conduct warrantless earches and seizures of firearms, the Sheriff can throw them out of his county. The Sheriff can assemble a militia and can deputize people to help him throw the Fedstapo out of his county. You self-appointed “guardians of the Constitution” are scary. We have constitutional, legal means for resolving and interpreting the Constitution. Thats is the job of the courts and not the military. I’ve never felt so much hope as I have after having come across oathkeepers and do look forward to becoming an involved american. I can’t remember the last time I read our constitution, but am reading it now and am amazed at how far our country has strayed from it’s own sane constitution.
It’s scary that before I knew about Oathkeepers I was without hope for our country, given the courts, the president and all things authoritarian. There’s just been too much injustice in all things legal.

Apparently “anonymous” at 9:41 Jul 17 does not understand that police and military blindly following orders is how tyrants come to power.
One more thing for anonymous, who said “You have no right to assert an extra-legal right to take matters into your own hands.” You are historically ignorant. We did not hold the NAZI Concentration camp guards innocent for blindly following orders. I suupose anon wishes to stirke the “obey lawful” part from the oath and replace it with “blindly follow orders”.
Look, folks, I GET the idea that the military should not obey illegal orders. But the military is NOT a co-equal branch of the government. Thus, the military has no business interpreting the meaning of the Constitution or organizing itself to act in a political way. None whatsoever.
The people do not need military “protectors” to step in and save them from themselves. The people can defend the republic without the help of colonels in mirrored sunglasses who decide to make themselves into the moral guardians of everybody else.
Movements like this always appear to be “well-meaning.” They always present themselves as the “honorable men” who will step in and rescue the “decadent” and deformed republic from the “dirty politicians.” But doing that is the role of civilians.
Organizing the military to take on the role of “putting things right” is a bad, bad, bad idea. This is the road to fascism.
As an active duty Military Policeman I once stopped a station wagon that had erroneously driven onto my base in Denver, made a u-turn and was headed back off post. As I approached I noticed several children, all under the age of 7 with their 2 parents, some were crying and (apparently) EVERYTHING THEY OWNED was piled all over in what little space their vehicle could stow. When I ran the operator / father’s DL, it came back on a warrant for failure to appear on a traffic ticket and I was told to place him under arrest by dispatch. Now, I was NOT one to disobey orders, nor was I one to find favor in dispensing my ‘gut feelings’ in defiance of law, but something bit at me on that stop and I simply could NOT take this poor man into custody. Instead I chose to let him and his family go when afterward I was immediately called in by the watch commander. Regardless of my own scrutiny as a result, I felt the best decision was made based upon my witness to this man’s obvious hard-ship and knowing God wanted me to give him a break. I later made myself aware of his “criminal charges” by running an NCIC/CCIC on his information which I kept and discovered he had only one ticket for “failure to stop or yield for emergency vehicle” that was issued from another county in Colorado. I’m not certain as to why he’d been ordered to appear before the judge for this citation, but the fact that he failed to do so created the warrant that haunted him.
I was surprised when my boss came to me a couple of days later with official charges against me for my ‘lack of due diligence’ in failure to making the arrest and wound up defending myself in a bizarre “his freedom in exchange for my own” irony that clashed with my moral compass greatly. The end result was an informal reprimand for my ‘individual thought’ process and a life changing decision that still holds great meaning to me this very day.
Shortly thereafter I decided to get out and took an honorable discharge from active duty, but stayed in the Reserves while working as a DOE contractor which allowed me to work alongside fellow law enforcement representing every considerable branch and / or jurisdiction on a fairly large scale. Over and over again I became familiar with a multitude of various ‘cop like’ personalities associated with the shiny badge. What I learned revealed that indeed, I am not gifted in mechanical ‘go, fight, arrest, kill’ thought process and suffer from what is called ‘human emotion’. I discovered along the way that in this world you will be challenged and woe’d, perhaps to a point of conjecture that forces the moral ambiguity to disappear and the light from God to illuminate. I knew that if I arrested that man that day, visualizing his children and wife breaking down and the aftermath that would soon follow, I wouldn’t be able to look in the mirror. Instead this experience flows thru me and liberates the once strong conforming ideals that I now recognize as “mental conditioning” and / or mind control. To those officers who struggle with serving the public IAW man’s abuse of God’s Law, let me just assure you that His camera is always rolling and His truth is marching on! Don’t wait for a second chance to do the right thing.

In light of the discrepancies of statements made, and in light of private citizens with professional knowledge and competence in the field of computer forensics, discovering over 100 errors in documentation released from offices of Federal government, the first order on any agenda for any law enforcement officer, should be to arrest any offender, if suspected of a serious offense or crime.
What more hideous crime could there be than to try by fraudulent means to usurp the Nation as a whole.

Uncle Jim enlisted in the Marine Corps a few months prior to Pearl Harbor.
He assaulted Guadalcanal and various other islands then injured on Saipan with over a year in a hospital.
Korea brought him back and during the Frozen Chosin was injured again.
In the 1970s he ran and won for sheriff in a rural Nebraska community that was having trouble with hard-core drugs and outside biker gangs distributing the stuff.
Using the only effective methods available he controlled the problem. He stepped on some local toes with their hands in the pot and the FBI was called in to investigate HIM!!!!!
Basically, when they arrived not only did he refuse to cooperate he ordered them out of the county or he would arrest them.
The FBI left his county but continued the investigation from afar.
Nothing was found to pin on him and he won the next election.
Two terms was enough for him but there was no repeat of the events that led him to run for sheriff that first time.
As for Ruby Ridge and Waco he shook his head and mocked the power-hungry rookies and declared how those events could have been handled differently so as to preserve life and expenses.
He also was angered at the continuing militarization of local police that so often distances the police from the populace.
Along with Dad, may he rest in peace, Uncle Jim, who is in his 80s at the Veteran’s old folk’s home, would approve of Oath Keepers but he has earned his rest and mostly watches football and movies and sleeps a lot due to advanced age.
You know that it is a small percentage right now and hopefully growing that will be on the side of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. It will be like our founding fathers opposing the British all over again! The 2nd Revolutionary War is about to begin.
